We had a great stay and found Steph at reception really helpful. We found the hotel easily, nice welcome and then easy to find room. We had booked a budget room so unsure what to expect but pleasently surprised. Our room was clean and large, bathroom good with great water pressure, lovely toiletries and hot water. It is the rainforest so on first glance things do look a little green but we had nothing to complain about. The view from the room was amazing. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and it was great food and lovely service. Pool was lovely when we used it the first day (closed for maintenance day 2). We visited end of season so a few things were a little tired but based on the natural environment they are working in can't say I was surprised. Our air con worked to perfection keeping the room dry, amazing as it was so humid outside. Also so pleased to have an inside bathroom which I notice a few surrounding hotels don't. A few simple updating things could have got this to 5 star for us on our budget expectations, but anyone visiting needs to be aware of the local conditions and environment to manage expectation. Be aware you will find bugs and creepy crawlies if you don't keep doors etc closed! We booked two excursions on site, easily done, great service from Steph, left reviews for these separately (night walk and snorkelling) as operated independently.

Relaxing comfy stay with friendly staff (backpackers from around the world). This place is in the middle of the rainforest so has a lovely relaxed feel about it. Can highly recommend that you book the night walk with Kane (but beware that the time of 1.5 hours can extend to 2.5 hours). Kane is very passionate and very knowledgeable. The crocodile, kangaroo, chicken, steak & salad share platter is very yummy and can feed 3-4!

To wake up in the middle of the rainforest was just delightful. Most of the rooms are set up in duplexes, which means the views out of the windows are to the surrounding rainforest. Check in was simple and the staff were very friendly. We stayed in a King + 2x Single bed room, in a bit of a studio style. The main room had the bed and the 2x singles were located up a very steep ladder in a bit of a loft area above. The main king bed was super comfy, and there were no complaints about the single. The loft area had a fan but didn't have a ceiling light, and there were no fly screens/mosquito nets to leave any of the windows open at night, so we ended up keeping them closed and using the air-con (which I suspect is what most people would do anyway). Bathroom was very large with some extra space for hanging clothes/getting changed. Shower had good pressure. Pool area was lovely for a dip to cool off, especially since swimming off the beaches is not recommended (crocodiles and stingers). The on-site restaurant (The Cassowary Restaurant) was very good. They do suggest you book ahead of time with your room booking, and at first I thought it was just a money grab, but I am very happy I decided to book there, as the food was superb and the staff were friendly, genuine and had a sense of humour.

We stayed 3 nights in a loft apartment. Comfortable king size bed and loft area for kids. The onsite restaurant, Cassowary’s has a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and lovely food. The food & wine are reasonably priced considering the remote location. Great location as close to the beach & the only supermarket and 2 nice cafes within walking distance. It is worth noting that this place is in the middle of the rainforest. As such you will get some insects in your room, not the nasty kind just a few small spiders and bugs. This is not a luxury eco resort, it is basic but comfortable & affordable place to stay for those staying a short time in Cape Tribulation.

Understandably very mixed reviews on here, AND it's obvious why. Stunning location, nestled in the rainforest. Sitting in the restaurant watching the kids have fun in the pool surrounded by the jungle is one of my best memories of our Australia (East Coast) holiday. The restaurant is pretty good. It's great walking between the rooms and restaurants feeling the presence of nature everywhere. The rooms are basic and rustic. It feels a bit like camping! For us, it was part of the adventure, but I can understand why some people expected more. There is no luxury here. But it just about met our minimum requirements. We found the staff helpful and pleasant. Would I stay here again? Probably.

It is a nice place however, it is in desperate need of a deep clean. Our room was very musty smelling, and so realise that due to the area that it would have issues with damp and mould, but it would be nice not to see full damp rid containers in the room and mould in view. The bed was comfortable and sheets were the only clean feeling thing in the room, but no curtains in the loft, and no flyscreens on the window, maybe if windows could be left open the room would smell better. The staff are nice and we really enjoyed our meals here, the outdoor eating area needs to have the flooring replaced, my chair leg nearly went through a hole in the deck. With some rennovations and good cleaning, this place could be a very nice place to stay

Dirty, disgusting, gross! Don’t stay here. See the photos for how horribly dirty this room was. I booked through Qantas Hoyels nd expected far better. When I arrived the receptionist looked down her nose t me while she said I was in the budget room. At $195 for one person, it’s not budget. I wasn’t expecting luxury, but I did expect a clean room. Everything was covered in dirt and grime - door handles, fridge, walls etc. The bathroom was full of mould and there was barely a dribble of water from the shower and it was cold. I expected to be able to have a hot shower. The bed had a dirty sheet on a dirty mattress. There was no mattress protector. The pillows smelt dirty and damp. The location is lovely, as are the gardens, but you can’t enjoy this while the room is a health hazard.

This place is disgusting. A ruined family trip - we came from the UK and took our aunt for a trip to Cape Trib. DO NOT consider booking here. Expensive and run by kids. Shame on the general manager Tim Monolney who was notable in his absences and slack management and could not be bothered to answer my emails whilst we were there. Hotel is run by kids, full or students on budget tours. Don’t be deceived by the official photos and don’t waste your money. Stay anywhere but here * Floor disgustingly filthy in room and bathroom * Mould everywhere * No one made up the bed or cleaned room * No curtain on the window by the loo * A hole in floor near bathroom door - the floor is rotten and the patch-up job is not holding - we sprayed repellent around it to try to keep bugs out * Lots of dead insect gunk above the window * Fridge very noisy and can’t sleep with it turned high - reduced temperature to 2 overnight and woke up to a flood of water on the floor * Outside light not working so can’t use it to sit outside in the evening * No flyscreens on windows so can’t ventilate * Light switches dirty, mould on shower cubicle and between tiles * Walls mucky * Shower rack rusty and flaking * Blue cleaner all over the sink * Very old taps - how much effort is it to replace taps? * Shower constantly dripping The only redeeming feature is the restaurant - well done to the chefs and the waiting staff.

This place is in major need of an overhaul, maintenanceand a thorough clean. Nothing has changed since the last time I was here 5 years ago. As soon as I walked into the "deluxe" room I got a deja vu experience with the damp musty smell. I had to go to the store and buy incense to try and dull the smell. The fan is absolutely filthy and we cannot even use the bathroom because of the black mould. We will not be showering here. So very disappointed and actually disgusted. Peeved that we paid $250 for these revolting conditions.
