Stayed 2 nights at Battlesteads, lovely place with plenty space in bar and restaurant, also an outdoor garden area. Room was a double but on the small side. When we arrived the heat in the room(14) from the radiator in the bathroom was unbearable, we asked how to remedy this and were told if we'd turned it down it would cool, so we did - and it didn't!! It was so very hot, especially after having used the bathroom, it was like a sauna. We opened the window but as we were on the ground floor with the carpark immediately outside it wasn't ideal. Food was OK, staff very nice. We visited the observatory last night, sky cloudless - until we went back outside to use the telescope by which time cloud had gathered, disappointed but out of our control. I'd definitely stay here again but not room 14.

Have stayed here multiple times. Accommodation is always clean. Be aware that cabins can be very warm in good weather. Although they have a fan it can still be very hot in the night. Dan and Kiona were great members of staff, very friendly and helpful. Good selection of beers and other drinks.

This was our second visit to Battlesteads and we love it. We stayed in a slightly bigger room this time, overlooking the garden which was nice. The whole place is immaculate and the staff are absolutely lovely. They work so hard and nothing is a bother. The food is amazing, the fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding are out of this world. We had the loveliest stay and can't wait to come back.

We just stayed the one night as we'd booked to go to the dark sky observatory which is just adjacent to the hotel. Our room was on the ground floor, very comfortable. Didn't have much of a view from the room but we did have a pint in the lovely garden area. We would have paid for one of the more expensive rooms if we'd been staying longer. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Husband had an enormous plate of fish and chips which he couldn't finish. Beautiful fish and crunchy batter. Good breakfast in the morning too. They make a point of either growing (mushrooms) or making their own on site as much as possible with ingredients locally sourced.

My husband and I have just enjoyed a two day break with you - The Taster Menu website offer, and thoroughly enjoyed everything on offer. It was our first time staying at Battlesteads. The fact that we live less than an hour away will no longer affect our decision to return! The facilities on offer in our bedroom way above those on offer at other similar establishments. We will not hesitate to recommend you to our friends and family

My wife and I visited on Saturday 5th April. This is the third time we have visited the lovely Bar/Restaurant. There is a gentleman who works behind the bar. Did not get his name. He was the only male with a bit of a beard where we had the displeasure to have been insulted by. The other time when he was not on duty was great and friendly. This male is arrogant and very sharp and unpleasant! He needs to go on a course that teaches customers care and manners. If we ever visit again and he is behind the bar we will just walk out! We were going to recommend the Battlesteads to family and friends as Wark is a lovely little village will not be recommending if he is working there. There are other apartments available in the village, so my advice to any potential visitor is to go elsewhere.

We had received gift vouchers for a meal and the observatory experience. The food was excellent and well presented, and the staff were lovely. A shout out to Catherine who was exceptional. Sadly the skys didn’t oblige and we couldn’t see much, but it means we will be back.

When arriving we were greeted with 'what do you want?' rather than how can I help you. When I asked if we can check in were told we were too early and that was it, nothing polite about this. I presumed she was having a bad day so left it at that. The lodge was a good size, although dirty, coffee cup rings on glass, stains on pillowcase and when we went to use the whirlpool bath, black bits came out. The service in the restaurant was average at best, we waited ages to be serviced and although she apologised it still wasn't good enough. We weren't asked once if we would like another drink or any sauces, but other tables around us were asked! The beds were very uncomfortable, felt like cheap mattresses. Unfortunately we will not be recommending this place to friends
