Just returned from a 3-night, 3-round golf break to La Manga staying in a suite in the Grand Hyatt. The resort and the golf courses were naturally very quiet being out of season for golf, but the hotel was fully operational bar the pool bars and a couple of the restaurants, which is to be expected. Rooms are exceptional following the recent renovation and the whole hotel has a real five-star feel to it, with service to match. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and everyone went above and beyond to make our stay as relaxing as possible. The food was excellent, especially the breakfast buffet and the Sunday Brunch, which is well worth fasting for the day before to the make the most of it! Also very impressed with the hydrotherapy pool and steam/sauna rooms, which were perfect for relaxing aching muscles after golf. Golf courses were obviously in their dormant grass-growing phase given the time of year, but the general condition was excellent and the greens were also in good shape. The South, North and West courses provide a nice contrast of challenges, with heavy bunkering on the South and North ramping up the test, while anything missing the fairway on the West pretty much requires a reload as many of the holes are separated by deep ravines. We had all 3 courses to ourselves, give or take the odd resident golfer, but otherwise was like millionaire's golf. All in all a nice break from the wet, muddy and frozen courses in the UK, and I look forward to returning again soon.
