excellent room, excellent location, unacceptable food

Where do I start.. we had a wonderful time hotel food weather entertainment bartenders cheffs ala carte dinners everything was top notch .. shout out to the entertainment team for making it much greater experience ronaldinho daniel tsunami ricky sweet Caroline and pimpy the cheff at the Japanese restaurant was amazing .. thank you so much with love leo Papa as entertainment team called me

I go to Cuba for the beautiful beaches & the kind welcome from the Cuban people. Melia Costa Rey has wonderful staffing everywhere. No fruit juice or rum punch was offered in the lobby upon arrival nor was there a fresh, cool, wet towel that is appreciated after a long day of travel. This resort is planting & making improvements on the property. Recently changed hands from another franchise. The property is big with a newer adults only section & has lovely stone & brick walkways throughout that we enjoyed for a daily evening stroll. Clean & spacious pools with different depths for all ages. Used the spa twice for massages. Loved the people & experience so much I had to book a second! No locals live in Cayo Coco…the workers are bussed in daily. No harassing from vendors on the clean white sandy beach. Lots of lounger chairs & talapas for shade & water temp was very warm with gentle shallow sloping into the ocean for swimming & jumping waves. Every day the entertainers had events happening around the main pool area for those that like to participate in dance offs etc. & evening shows. One evening was a beach party. One day was Cuban Day…with music, bar, food set up in a park area & they wore their red, white & blue with straw hats & danced & sang at the park. Another day was set up Canada Day red n white banners etc with foam cannon party in the big pool. Fun for the whole family. Not all venues, bars, restaurants etc were open…I presume they would be if the resort was at full capacity. Off the main reception are 3 small stores…a cigar shop, a liquor store & a beach wear shop. I missed having a sundry type store with things like novelties, t shirts, gum n candy & things like tylenol or sunscreen etc if you needed items like that. Just 1 vendor set up his crafts on a few days in the week. There were security people walking the premises at night & not once did I feel unsafe. The beach is fronting northeast. Not ideal for sunrises & sunsets if that is your thing. The weather was great & always nice breezes & never any mosquitoes. Yes, we noticed issues with shortages in the water bottlesjuice & sodas availability. Some days none & that impacted what bartenders were able to offer for cocktails. I saw No hotdogs, No burgers nor fries. All ages of people stayed at the resort…something for everybody & safe for all. Wifi hit n miss daily…one morning we had no power but it was restored that day. Overall, a nice week & its the people that make your experience great
