Pike and Eel Hotel and Marina

Had a lovely stay at the Pike and Eel. Having read previous reviews I was cautious, however noticed more recent reviews were better and it’s true. Change of ownership, and refurbishment has taken place. Our room was a twin room on the ground floor, very modern, large, clean and comfy beds. There is a large bar area and restaurant, we had an evening meal that was delicious. Booked direct with the hotel and breakfast was included. Freshly cooked and large choice, couldn’t fault. All staff were very polite and attentive. The setting is beautiful, on the river and marina, outside seating and large car park. Will definitely be back.

The riverside location, huge area with picnic tables, smart decking with glass to keep out chilly winds are clearly a big attraction. The inside has a large old, interesting bar area with some adjoining nooks and a pool room. The restaurant allows for river views. At the rear a lot of renovation work is going on. Comfortable beds. Food of a good standard, with outstanding curry. Cooked breakfast fine but continental a bit sparse. Staff could not have been nicer.

I had an absolutely outstanding brunch at Pike and Eel—the kind of experience that stays with you. I ordered the Texas Pulled Pork Eggs Benedict and it was, without exaggeration, perfection on a plate. The pulled pork was beautifully slow-cooked—tender, juicy, and full of rich, smoky flavour. It sat on a crisp, toasted English muffin with two perfectly poached eggs (the yolks were spot on), all topped with a smooth, buttery hollandaise sauce with just the right hint of sharpness. Every element was cooked with real care and balanced brilliantly. Huge credit goes to Chef Aveek, whose skill in the kitchen clearly shines through. You could tell every dish leaving the pass was made with precision and pride. He’s created a menu that’s both comforting and impressive—brunch done right. The service was just as exceptional. Jorja, our waitress, was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. Warm, professional, attentive, and full of personality—she made us feel completely looked after without ever being overbearing. She really added something special to the whole experience. And a big shoutout to Tony, the bartender, who was equally fantastic. Friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what he does, he helped create a relaxed, feel-good atmosphere that made us want to stay longer. Pike and Eel is a gem—top-quality food, standout service, and a team that genuinely cares. Can’t wait to return. If you haven’t been yet, go. You won’t be disappointed.

I went with my mum and my dad and my mum didn’t like the food she said “it was cooked yesterday and put in a pot of water “ I tryed it ,it was dry , and not that nice but rest of the food was Fine and the staff very sweet and welcoming, thanks you pike and Eel

We had a lovely lunch in the restaurant, the avocado on toast and fish and chips were delicious! Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. Would recommend! The setting is also very pretty with lots of seating outside which is perfect for the summer!

Went for dinner, lovely location with plenty of room to sit on the lawn outside . Alot of customers with dogs off lead roaming about, ok if you like dogs. Staff lovely. The food I thought was overpriced to be honest , my husband ordered the steak which was tasty but tiny , came with a sauce and side of choice, no garnish side salad etc just the side you ordered( would expect more for the price). Be nice if there was steak chips rather than cheap fries . I had the vegetarian burger which was tasty but again just came with a plate of cheap fries no garnish or side salad again for the price I’d expect a bit more and presentation is lacking .
