New Woodlands Hotel

Great location for Mylapore. Hotel is the center of a calm, friendly compound (several buildings up a driveway), a nice haven from ordinarily busy noisy India. Room large and comfortable. Good all-around vibe. Lots of food shops within a couple blocks walk (for my fruit, peanuts, etc) . Only vegetarian restaurants within compound, but I got nice clean chicken meal next door. Great value.

In my life I have never seen this type of hotel, Chennai is my home town also, I booked this hotel room to meet my business clients discussions, when I was checked in alone, during checking in I informed the receptionist later I will have guests to meet me, They said the guests were not allowed to go inside the room , only we had to sit down in the lobby only, I came here to close my business deals, how can I open my laptop top in the open place and sign the contract documents, more over we have to do cash transaction also, This type of management system made me fed up , I am Very disappointed about this hotel.

A gathering of old friends, some with families met for lunch at Hotel New Woodlands, Chennai. Our unanimous choice was a South Indian Thali meal! As usual the menu had Pooris, Baaji. Koottu, Poriyal, Sambar, Rasam, Vattha Kuzhambu, Appalam, Pickle, Curds ***** with repeated servings of Rice. Comes ***** with all these is a sweet & ice cream for dessert and to be completed with a Sweet Pan! The ambience, traditional service and the hospitality hasn't changed a bit, but the original flavour and taste of "Woodland's" touch is missing these days!

Important Notice – Please Read & Share I recently visited the New Woodlands Hotel – Janaki Krishna Hall, Chennai, for the reception of our owner’s son with my 5-year-old child. While there, my son was wearing a 5-gram gold chain, which I had purchased in February 2025 with my hard-earned money. I walk barefoot as a personal devotion to God. On the evening of Friday, 24th October 2025, my son was wearing the chain in the dining hall. After moving to the next hall, the chain went missing. We immediately asked the hall staff and manager, but no clear response was given. I would like to advise all visitors to New Woodlands Hotel – Janaki Krishna Hall to be extra cautious with their belongings. This chain was not just a piece of jewelry; it holds deep emotional and sentimental value for me, with a current market value of ₹55,000. The value of this gold chain is also expected to increase in the future. I have filed a police complaint, but unfortunately, the CCTV footage was unclear, and no one could be identified. I sincerely thank the Royapettah Police Station for their support. On 04/09/25 we had been to New woodlands restaurant, after considerable time. Last time we were unhappy. This time also, nothing much has changed. Very poor service. Non English speaking attenders from northern india, who don't either know English or tamil behave indifferntly. They don't show politeness and their behaviour was arrogant. No complaint to the supervisor or Manager works out. Also the prices of eatables are exorbitant with a plate of idly costing around Rs. 120/- , to quote an example. There's been so much hype about the restaurant, but it was just okay. It was an unpleasant morning & a big disappointment, which we would like to forget.

We, around 14 of us decided to meet after a longtime. We all went to the same School more than 50 years ago. Pure vegetarian Lunch, the natural preference was New Woodlands, Radhakrishnan Salai, Chennai. All of us met for Lunch and had a great time. Our unanimous choice was South Indian Vegetarian Thali. They start with freshly fried Pooris with a lot of side dishes. Followed by Sambar, Rasam, Vatha Kuzhambu, Curds, Koottu & Poriyal. At the end of the lunch we get a cup of Vanilla ice cream and a nice sweet beeda! Great food, the ambience and the service!

The woodlands room is decent compared to the rent. The food at the restaurant is great and it's pure vegetarian.

Good stay. Clean rooms with 2 restaurants available inside the stay premises. Easy access to all nearby attractions. WIFI could have been better

Centrally located, neat, spacious and clean place for a quick short stay. Courteous staff and good restaurant. Don’t expect any fancy 4-star luxuries.
