The Residence

Happy stay, staff will do extra miles. We stayed here for two nights as a transit from Madagascar. There are new Marriott and a few to choose but we would rather stay in a nice hotel than a business hotel although the latter is a safe choice to get all you expect to get. However, i am very happy to chose this hotel. Although it is a boutique hotel and has something that can improve (hot shower cannot last too long, toilet in the bar do not flush too well), the stay would make you happy. Room is very big and when you walk out, there’s a swimming pool and a jacuzzi. The deco is very nice , the place is quiet and peaceful. Staff are very nice and they really try their best to make your stay satisfied.

We stayed only 1 night at the Residence but it felt like more. First, we were able to check in 4 hours earlier which added precious time in the lovely suite we had booked. Second, the staff was very helpful organizing an amazing private tour with Marvin for the next day. We were able to visit Johannesburg and Soweto and learned more about South Africa’s history than visiting any museum. The stay was also our last day in SA and the staff reserved us a lovely table on the terrace for our final dinner before heading home.

This was the perfect place to spend a few nights in Joburg whilst playing golf in the area. Beautiful room with different areas (sitting and a little deck with an outside shower). Super efficient staff and delicious meals in the restaurant. We loved every minute. Also so grateful to be allowed to stay in the room until a late check out.

A truly magical place. The hotel team welcome you from the airport and already have a sense of belonging with expert driver/guide who offers a service with a smile which is great after the trip and immigration and customs que hassles. The food and location are stunning in a beautiful upmarket neighborhood filled with rich history. You don't feel like a guest but rather more like a family member. All the amazing amenities are pointed out and you miss nothing of the best that is on offer, the GM Rambo goes out of his way to ensure everything is in order for guest requests, nothing was too much trouble Nosi and Mpho equally were above par who were professional and so friendly. In all honesty the whole team is great making it difficult to pick out individuals as they were all excellent. Martin and team served food and drinks with a smile and quiet charm. I am usually an early bird and enjoy a dip swim with a heated pool option available, they have a staff member on hand to assist with a morning coffee even at the crack of dawn. I highly recommend a stay here especially if you are in transit as it's a great place to reboot.

Nice property however the swimming pool in our villa was not available, nor was the larger pool outside our villa. So two out of three pools were out of order. Not great. But otherwise the villa was clean, functional etc and the staff weee great

Since our 4-night stay at Christmas, The Residence ranks in the top our all-time favourites hotel list. Such a wonderful place. The experience started at the airport, where we were pickup by a very friendly driver (cold towels, bottled water and a welcome letter included). The hotel itself feels so intimate and quiet.... every corner is to be explored and has a very homy feel. The bar, the restaurant, the terrace and pools.... we tested everything and were very satisfied. Breakfasts were really good and included even a fantastic MCC wine (bubbles). Besides a cold buffet, we could choose a hot dish from quite an extensive menu. Lunch and dinner were also very tasty and served by very professional waiters. We stayed in the penthouse suite, which has a massive terrace looking out to Rosebank, Melrose and Sandton. Note that pictures on their website were not up-to-date : the entire terrace is now covered (and not only the outside sitting area). As such, the jacuzzi (which we used daily) can be used also when it is raining... at the back of the room, next to the bath room is a second (smaller) terrace with an outdoor shower and a hot tub. We did not use the hot tub, since it has no view. The outdoor shower was nice though. What makes the residence so special is the intimate feeling of a true boutique residence and the well-trained personnel. Special thanks to Nosi, with whom I communicated long before our arrival and who was there during our stay and made sure to handle every request with the biggest smile and greatest efficiency ! One thing is for sure : we will be back !

Having spent 4 days in Sabi Sands game reserve and rising at 5.30am each day we decided to have a few days in Johannesburg. The Residence was more than we expected! A beautiful hotel in an upscale residential area. We booked a double bed room and was pleasantly surprised that we were upgraded to the pool villa. The decor of the hotel was in a colonial style with mirrors everywhere. The staff was very accommodating and personable and the included breakfast menu was varied, from fruit and cold cuts to cooked breakfasts. We also enjoyed partaking in the dinner as the menu was varied. On one note there was only 1 USB outlet in our room and the TV was via internet and didn't have the option of watching TV. ( Missed seeing PL games). Also if you wish to sample other restaurants one has to take an Uber as nothing in the 2 mile radius. We were advised to take the "black" Uber option as the safest way. (42% unemployment and high crime rate). The hotel can also provide transportation if available.

We've lost count of how many times we stayed at the Residence, it's just the best place to stay in Johannesburg. We opened and ended our latest trip to SA here. The quality is wonderful, the staff just can't do enough for you. The breakfasts, excellent. The reception staff, so attentive and intuativley know how to help you. It just can't be beaten. Don't waste your time (and money) staying at big brand hotels, this is the best place to stay...

This was a great place to start our South African vacation. The hotel was lovely and the staff very kind. We particularly enjoyed our tour of Soweto with Marvin and found him very knowledgeable. The ladies in the spa were also exceptional and we had a lovely time chatting with them while having foot/leg massages. We ate at the hotel restaurant both nights and really enjoyed it.
