To start, the extraordinary picturesque views from our room (see photos) looked like classical English or French landscapes. In late May the meadow and lake, complete with sheep, were visible until 10pm. Our week at Ees Wyke included lots of Beatrix Potter (her home, Hill Top, is literally a five minute walk from Ees Wyke) and Wordsworth and Ruskin. We found the location convenient for everything on our itinerary, including boat rides on Coniston and Windermere. Ees Wyke was civilized but informal, with very good three-course dinners, always served precisely at 7:30. The dinner service was warm, inviting, friendly but not intrusive. The chef/owner and staff were wonderful. In the best sense this felt like a return to a much earlier time but without the slightest formality. A friend recommended this to us, and we are happy to pass along our heartiest agreement.
