Excellent Sunday roast and battered cod was superb.good wine and great service from friendly and efficient staff. Would recommend to family and friends. Will be going back as soon as possible. Great setting. My one small gripe would be the parking as once the car park which hold’s probably 12 cars, would not be sure where else to park in the village.

Lovely setting, very quiet area. The food was really incredible ! The restaurant/bar was beautiful. The room was very nice, good size and love the small environmentally conscientious touches. The staff are an asset, all lovely but special mention to both ladies serving dinner Friday evening who were so welcoming and the chap during breakfast service on Saturday. Would definitely return

First time visit to this establishment, party of seven pre booked table for lunch. Male waiter served us drinks with no warmth or a smile, in fact he looked like he didn’t want to be there. Gave our food order to a lady and 20 mins later first course arrived. 1.5 hours later our main course arrived after several prompts and watching the adjacent table being served their food who incidentally ordered after we did. Food was okay nothing special. We were offered 10% discount on the final bill for the delay in our food being served, better than nothing I guess. Consequently we won’t be returning to this establishment.

Picked randomly online and didn’t regret it. We arrived late and after a warm welcome had a couple of drinks. The room was more than adequate with a big comfy bed. Breakfast the following morning was great. Superb visit albeit very short. Would definitely return.

Four of us arrived about 12.30 to very warm welcome with 2 small dogs. Immediately seated in a cosy corner to be asked what we wanted to drink to be served at table. Imaginative menu - between us we had Lamb Kofta, 2 mackerel pâtés on a crumpet, a Vege Mezze Board and a chicken schnitzel plus drinks and coffees. Reasonably priced, the lot for £107 inc. service. Each beautifully prepared and very tasty. Charming and professional service. First time visit for me, would certainly return.

We have been coming to this place for many years but sadly the food isn’t up to the standards of the previous visits. Some of our party had the roast and some the fish and chips. The mains came out before the starters due to kitchen mix up. After they were returned and we asked for them not to be kept warm in the oven, as suggested by our waiter, our starters appeared. Fish and chips, although great portion size, was a bit underwhelming and mushy peas were more of a liquid. Roast beef wasn’t up to what was anticipated. I have to say the staff were friendly. We have had some great times here but think it’s time to move on to something new.

We do regular midweek breaks and have got to say this is amongst the best, well priced room, evening meal was excellent, the waiting staff were very attentive and friendly. We both had starters and mains but were too full for desert, very good portions, especially the schnitzel.Would definitely stay again.

So trip 9 of our tour of the Chestnut group restaurants. So disappointing. It stands out as being very different from the others. The decoration was standard gastro pub, nothing memorable. Having lived in a beamed house it can be challenging to decorate but no velvet chairs just standard pub furniture. The staff was pleasant but didn’t feel any of them went out of their way to improve our experience. The waiter was not able to answer questions about the food but did go and ask. None of us ( a party of 4 ) were impressed with the food. Nothing exciting on the menu, no offer of the normal delicious dirty fries the other restaurants offer and the food itself was disappointing. Fish in batter heavily coated so the fish was over cooked. I don’t recommend the mushroom and red pepper burger. Definitely won’t be visiting again. So our top 3 remains the same : Northgate Eight bells Packhorse.

We often visited over the years before Covid and the takeover by the Cheshunt Group so were looking forward to visiting once again to see if the standards had been maintained. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. Its more expensive than the average pub but the quality of the food does not match this. My husband decided that he would not visit again and that his roast was not up to the expected standard. We both had the pork and its quality was poor.
