Southern Light Country House

I have to say this place was very disappointing and not nearly as nice as it shows in the photos, particularly the pool area. Although it is in the heart of the wine Constantia wine growing area it operates a strict no alcohol consumption policy. Being Halaal don’t expect bacon or pork sausages for breakfast. Also the wifi reception is very poor throughout the premises. On the plus side, the rooms are nice, well kept and spacious.

We felt so much at home, safe and the breakfast was delicious! The garden is amazing and so is the pool! There is even a playground for kids! So this is just perfect to relax. Also the city center is not far away and Kirstenbosch is so close. Hope to come back!

Friendly staff, clean premises, affordable, nice breakfast and well positioned if you’re keen on being slightly out of the CBD and closer to the beautiful Kirstenbosch Gardens. We only stayed overnight as a family of four and had a comfortable stay.

Very friendly staff. Beautiful rooms. Peaceful. Breakfast was extremely basic.Hot meal was literally just eggs and a sausage.Was charged R150 for a bottle of grape juice that I later found cost R69.99!

This property is a real gem. The staff were friendly and communicated well. The term “free breakfast“ does not do justice to the delicious meal provided. Best coffee of my entire vacation. Being able to have some laundry done while we stayed was extremely helpful. The beds were very comfortable. I have nothing negative to say. Thank you so much.

Lovely Guesthouse in a quiet part of Cape Town. Comfy bed and great room. Very peaceful. I was there to run the Two Oceans so I'm just sorry I did not have time to sample breakfast overlooking the beautiful garden.

Rundown and dated. The place clearly shows a lack of tender loving care. It was once a beautiful country home but under a new owner that lives in Dubai you can definitely see the CRACKS. We booked to executive rooms, but on arrival we’re met t by the maid who clearly had no idea that we had booked. She tried phoning the manager but no answer, I then tried also finally voice mail. I left a message. Still nothing. We were then offered 2 rooms which we hadn’t booked, but at least we had a bed for the night. The rooms to be fair were clean, but been in Constantia one of the oldest wine regions in South Africa we were TOLD that there was no alcohol allowed on the premises. The whole place is run down the garden has fallen trees, the tennis court is a death trap and the swimming pool totally uninviting. There were tables outside some areas with food that had clearly been there for hours if not days. The Wi-Fi although free was a total waste of time, we tried in vain to book an Uber for some 40 minutes to simply keep been cut off. Everything about the place just feels unfriendly. After some 4 hours I finally got through to the manager to explain our unhappiness, she was far that si pathetic and simply put the phone down. Certainly would not go back.

Idyllic, quiet and relaxing getaway nestled in the slopes of Constantia. Wonderful service and commendable staff that treated us like family. We stayed in the executive suite. The suite is modern, clean and well maintained. The breakfast buffet was generous with a variety of servings. Grounds are lushes and well maintained. Will definitely visit the Southern Light again.
