My wife and I stayed for 4 nights in early May 2025. We went with two other couples. We stayed in Pinfold which was a great room. Very comfortable and quiet. A feature of everything at the hotel is attention to detail and good quality. Our room had a really good heating system but there was modern air conditioning also. The bathroom was equipped with a top quality shower, a bath and twin wash hand basins. The lounge, bars and restaurant were very comfortable. The staff were exceptional. All of them were delightful. Special mention to Amanda, Helen, Alan and Lizzie. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with a smile and friendly engagement. You all made our stay very memorable. Thank you. We really enjoyed the food, both breakfasts and dinner. All beautiful. The location is perfect for easy access to The North Yorkshire Moors (great driving roads) and easy access to Helmsley, Pickering, Malton, Thornton Dale and even Whitby is only 35 minutes away. A great stay and one we will repeat. Thank you to everyone at The Fox and Hounds. Everything was faultless.

Excellent 2 night stay at F&H. We stayed in the luxury room ‘pinfold’, it was beautiful. Large bath, separate waterfall shower and 2 sinks. Pictures on website are true to the room. It had a superking size bed. It’s on the ground floor and parking was very close just outside. It’s not in the main pub building, but very close across the entrance driveway into pub car park. Car park has glodious views over fields. Proper countryside. I would stay here anytime I’m in the area, as Pickering is less than 10 minutes away. Ideal for catching the trains. We went on Sir Nigel Gresley - excellent. 30 mins drive up to Grosmont, so not too far away. Also not too far for The Model Centre at Beck Hole, If you are looking for kit for the modeller. Back to fox and hounds. Welcome was superb. Very friendly. Shown to room, which was gorgeous and very luxurious. We booked for supper at 6pm as we had not eaten all day. The food was AMAZING. So much so, I ate 3 courses! Beef and horseradish Bon Bon’s to start, melted in the mouth and were very moreish. Sea bream with veg for main, also delicious and chocolate delice for pudding. Hubby had sausages and mash with onion gravy. Said best sausages he’s ever had. Slept very well in very big comfy bed. Great mattress. Very quiet and dark room…perfect. Breakfast next day was a treat. Cold cereals, already laid out for you to help yourself. Delicious Taylor’s of Harrogate coffee. Hot porridge with fruit and seeds for me. Cooked breakfast for hubby. Again, couldn’t fault it. Luxury indeed. Why would you stay in a beige premier inn when you can have the most beautiful room in the most gorgeous setting 5 mins drive away from Pickering centre? Stay here, it’s stunning and the people are just lovely. Sorry to leave, but will definitely be back. Thank you to everyone who made our stay superb! You’re great and we loved it.

My wife and I did Dinner, bed and breakfast with our two daughters. From the moment we arrived, we received exceptional treatment. Helen, Alan and all the staff were really attentive and helpful. Dinner from the main menu was simply delicious, and the wines carefully selected and sensibly priced. Both our rooms were spotless, warm, it was a cold night and the beds and bedding top quality. The ensuite bathrooms were a joy to use. We have no hesitation in recommending this splendid country inn to others and look forward to returning ourselves

We called in for an impromptu beer to find the pub was closed until later in the evening. Alan volunteered to open early for us in the main public bar and provided good company for us. This included a few local travel tips including the wall paintings at St Peter and St Paul in Pickering which we took up and enjoyed the following day! Lovely pub with good cask ales and good choice of lagers. We didn’t stop for dinner but the son of one of our friends had stayed the week before and really enjoyed the hospitality as well. Big shout out for Alan!

Superb!!!! This is my second visit to the F&H, and absolutely will not be my last! It’s great to be able to stay in an independently owned pub & hotel, with excellent hospitality, friendly staff, comfortable bedrooms, and superb food! The Guinness was excellent (not always the case in other establishments), and I must commend the scallops as a starter (I noted another reviewer thought that the food was much to spicy/hot, in my personal experience was the relish was a great combination for the dish - perhaps it could be put on the side so diners can make it as hot or not depending on their taste), and the meat pie was exceptionally delicious. I would like to particularly mention the first-rate hospitality from Helen, who seemed to be helpful at every moment - she met us at reception (and remembered our names from last time - a great touch of personal service), took us to our rooms, and served both at dinner and breakfast! The pub & hotel is well decorated, has a large private car park at the rear, and very easily found just off the A170.

One of our go back again and again places, the staff are amazing and unobtrusive ...the food is so good I was going to praise the breakfast but all the meals are equally great, we have stayed in lots of the rooms and don't really have a favourite as they are all beautiful

We had a fabulous Friends’ Festive DBB made even more memorable when the village was cut off on either side by floods that evening and the River Seven burst its banks so came diverting down the Main Street turning just short of the Hotel. Despite the flickering of the lights indicating that the power was on verge of going off, the staff team managed to provide us with an excellent 3 course meal with friendly upbeat service in the face of adversity. We surfaced next day to find that the floods had thankfully receded leaving a high tide mark of debris on street just outside. The staff who had had to sleep overnight at the hotel provided the full dining room with breakfast although they must have been exhausted. Total bunch of stars.
