Sundaras Resort & Spa Dambulla

As a group of 4, we decided to go for dinner at the Sundaras resort. The staff really looked after us, the food was good and the beer cold. In chatting with Siddu, about the best things to do, we ended up booking two tours, the sunrise walk up Pidurangala rock and an afternoon elephant safari. Even though we were staying at a different hotel, he arranged pickup etc. all at a really good price. We were picked up from our hotel at 5.45 prompt both TK our guide and proceeded to Pidurangala rock, admission was 1000 or 2000LKR each. The climb was steps at first and some serious scrambling near the top. The walk, with maybe 1000 others, including rests and queuing for the difficult parts took about 30 to 40 mins. TK did the walk with us and helped us and others along the way. At the top we had the most spectacular views of sunrise and lion rock, the walk back in daylight was easier than going up in the dark. Following on, we had a really nice breakfast in a small 'locals' restaurant and then visited the reservoir, dropped back at our accommodation. TK was fantastic as a guide and a person . Next was the elephant safari, Thilina our guide and driver was excellent, he was very safe a careful, knowledgeable and took many short detours to places he thought the elephants may be. In total we saw 48 elephants, some only a few weeks old, to the very big ones. It was a fantastic trip, with a great guide / driver. Highly recommend this tour, it was 6 hours of pleasure and learning. We got back to our hotel to find a couple who had been quoted more for the two of them to do the safari than we paid for four people for the both trips. Needless to s at we returned the next day to eat and drink at the Sundaras. Thank you Siddu, TK and Thilina

A really lovely vibe at this place, with a great pool area with rustic seating areas and lots of trees around. Fantastic location for the nearby Dambulla Cave Temple. Very friendly and helpful staff, tasty meals and comfortable rooms with great spacious balconies. Just two things needed for five star review - mosquito repellent in rooms and a generator needed for occasional power cuts, which happened once during our stay. But overall, highly recommended.

My experience at Sundaras Resort was delightful. From the moment we arrived, Mr. Anurada's assistance made our stay truly wonderful. His attentive service and willingness to go above and beyond ensured that every aspect of our visit was enjoyable. The resort itself exuded charm and tranquility, with lush surroundings and well-appointed accommodations. The amenities provided were top-notch, catering to every need and indulgence. Overall, I highly recommend Sundaras Resort for a relaxing getaway, made even more memorable thanks to Mr. Anurada's exceptional hospitality.

Tow day to remember we decided to stay closer to Dambulla Town and we fined that super relaxing sundaras Resort and spa @ Dambulla..the staff & food makes our stay most un forgettable..pool and bar is wonderful clean room's make us super relex

The best place to get your rest in lushy greens after a visit to sigiriya, polonnaruwa or dambulla. Very kind staff, awesome swimming Pool, good food and the first bar (plus good music) we crossed in Sri Lanka. Choose this place as your base to visit the whole area.

We didn’t stay here but went for a few beers after looking at their website. The bar area is dilapidated, we did not use the pool as filtration system was turned off and only turned on when a few more people turned up. We asked for a drinks menu and were told we would have to wait for the bar person who then turned up and stated he didn’t have one. When I asked the price he said you will have to pay at reception so never got a price until I went to reception. They only thought we had had 4 beers but being honest I said no it was 6, £25 later I wish I had kept my mouth shut. Honesty can sometimes be a double edge sword. It’s certainly not 4star even at Sri Lanka standards

Sundaras Resort Dambulla is an amazing place to stay. My wife and I stayed three days at this hidden gem in the middle of a nature reserve. The hospitality was great with an extremely friendly and helpful staff, especially Sindu at the front office and Tito. The facilities, although not luxury, are quite delightful and good value for the cost. Every meal was an amazing array of traditional and delicious Sri Lankan dishes. A big advantage is that Sundaras is so close to many of the tourist attractions. We used the hotel tour service to visit places like Sigiriya, Pidurangala and Polonnaruwa. AK (Ekanayake), our tour guide was a wonderful man with great knowledge about the local scene and historical sites, to give us detailed descriptions about them. The inviting swimming pool at Sundaras, when we returned from the trips, in the hot evening, was another great feature. It was so refreshing and relaxing. Then there was the pool bar, manned by an extremely friendly guy to make and serve a delicious cocktail or a fruit juice. So, thank you to all at Sundaras for making our stay, a joy. Hopefully, we can be there again, some time.

we used the pool. Staying at a nearby hotel came to use the pool. No shade/ brollys for the sun bed and quite a few insects flying around. - but we are in the jungle it’s to be expected! pool and lion beer were nicer Food was average but enjoyed! We paid 1000 each to use pool
