East Street 3 Our first impression was, that there was no-one onsite to greet or welcome us, you had to find your own way into everything. The unit itself, albeit clean and tidy, was tiny, pokey, and absolutely miniscule. Barely enough room to put our case clear of walkways. No safety rails in bathroom, shower or at the steps. Not suitable for anyone with a disability. An air-conditioning unit, that despite being run on maximum heating, could not raise the temperature above 18 degrees. Not very comfortable on a cold night. The only way to keep warm was to get into bed, and turn on the electric blanket. An imposing and accusatory list of ‘House Rules’, telling all the things you could not do, was left on the bed for us to read. This made us feel quite unwelcome. A $200 ‘damage deposit’ pre-authorisation was placed on our credit card before we left home. This was not mentioned in any of the ads for the property, and was only found when we studied the fine print on the booking page. We treat all properties where we stay with the same respect as we treat our own home. We have never previously been charged a ‘damage deposit’ on any other property we have rented, and we did not appreciate this. Our stay at this property was booked and paid for in August 2021, as a ‘special getaway’ to mark the occasion of our 49th wedding anniversary, but due to the Lockdowns, we were unable to take it until February 2022. All in all, a very off putting, and disappointing experience.
