My Sister and I stayed at this wonderful property. The location of the Frederick Sterns House is excellent if you want to do all things Detroit. It's close to the Institute of Arts, Central Station, Downtown, and Belle Isle. The best surprise was the discovery of the Pewabic Pottery Studio just minutes away. Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted by Rachel who has poured her heart and soul into the Inn's restoration. She gave us a tour and offered us coffee and cookies! We stayed in the Magnolia room which has a separate sitting area and a large, spacious bathroom. The bed was very, very comfortable and relaxing. An added bonus is how quiet the property is as well as the off-street parking. We visit the Detroit area every year and we will definitely return to this Inn. Rachel is an excellent host and helped to make our stay very memorable. Finally, we are so happy to see Detroit and how far it has progressed in recent years. The vibe was so positive and happy.

It’s impossible to convey what a beautiful experience staying here has been. From the moment we arrived, we felt like welcome friends rather than customers. From the complete tour of the house with historical tidbits provided by Eric when we arrived, to the luxurious room with comfy bed and glorious bath facilities, to the unforgettable lemon French toast at breakfast, and most delightful conversation with Rachel in the ballroom about the process of restoring the house as a way of bringing the beauty and wisdom of the past into the souls of this generation and the next- this is the most wonderful stay I have ever had. I hope to stay longer next time, but will be dreaming of this place for a long time.

My partner and I stayed at Frederick Stearns House for 5 nights in late June and we highly, highly recommend it! We were actually reserved for 3 nights only, but we both were so comfortable and slept so well that we extended our stay. The house is a fabulous, beautifully restored mansion - it's big enough to be a hotel but since it's a B and B, there is a wonderful feeling of being "at home" that develops as you walk the halls, find the wall switches, make yourself a cup of tea, etc. I became quite attached to "my house" and can't wait to return. The inn was fully booked a few of the nights we were there, but you would never know - the interior walls are thick and extra sound-proofing was added during renovation (there is some street noise at times, like in any city). We did not eat breakfast so cannot comment on that, but every evening when we came home we had a little night cap in the basement speakeasy - utterly delightful. I could go on and on, but honestly: book for yourself and stay here! It's a very unusual, special place. Incredibly clean, wonderful hosts, great location, best sleep I have ever had away from home. The Frederick Stearns House is a gem!!

This historic Inn is amazing!! The owner is so personal and showed us around the whole property. She made us feel very welcome. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the beds are so comfortable. We enjoyed seeing the sites in Detroit and we will definitely go again.

My husband and I stayed at the beautiful Frederick Stearns House for one night. We had a lovely stay. The breakfast was one of the best we have ever had at a B&B (and we have stayed at many). My husband had the create your own omelet with rosemary potatoes, and I had the lemon French toast which was absolutely amazing! I would visit again just to have the lemon French toast. There is a fabulous pub style bar in the basement which would be perfect for a wedding rehearsal dinner or small reception. We will be visiting again!

The basics: large, clean, well-appointed accommodation with sitting room and bedroom. Sunny and quiet. Off-street parking, Close to downtown and to Grosse Pointe. Breakfast was buffet, hardy, healthy and timely. (made to order was not available) If you are looking for a comfortable convenient place to stay while in Detroit, Stearns House fits the bill-BUT there is so much more. Rachel, the proprietor, is passionate about history, architecture and landscaping and it shows in so many ways. Staying at Stearns House is time-traveling back to Detroit's gilded age. The place has been lovingly reclaimed with woodwork, leaded glass, antiques, and art work. Simply walking through the place is an experience. It is convenient, comfortable and ELEGANT. It is located on the edge of the Historic West Village and approx.a five minute walk to Belle Isle. Both are excellent for walks. 2 miles from downtown and 3 miles from Grosse Pointe. Stearns House will be our go-to for Detroit stays.

Disappointed and underwhelmed! We arrived on a day where the area lost power and continued to be off the next morning. I know this is no fault of the property, but I expected based upon price of room and advertising, that some attempt would be made the next morning to at least offer some brewed coffee and pastries that were picked up somewhere that had power for the guests staying there. The host of the Inn, was never to be seen AND the Inn had the nerve to charge full price for the room despite an email request from me that they refund the balance to me (based upon the situation and lack of service). I never even received a reply back.

I stayed at the Frederick Stearns House when I was in Detroit for a conference at the convention center. It's a historic mansion that was transformed into a boutique hotel. My room was recently remodeled and the trim and bathroom were excellent. The room was also huge with a king bed. The main staircase is beautiful and the art is all period. They also have an incredible full bar in the basement. It's an honor bar where you write down what you drank in notebooks tied to your room. Breakfast is freshly made and served in a formal dining room. Highly recommend this place and will stay here next time I'm in town.
