Hotel Ambatoloaka

LOCATED at semi Ambateloaka Beach Front in the 3rd. number to the inside from the main road parallel and next to calm Ocean water with not v. clean not neat semi wide soft brown Sand. Many Shops are around and main popular Market is 1.5 km N. Port & Old Town is 11 km E. with Tuc Tuc = about 15,000 Ariary alone or 4,000 Ar. Shared collectivo & There is no public Bus or Taxi ... Budget Double ROOM is as described during reservation: V. big Size with large rear Balcony & 8 limited French channels flat TV & stand Fan & big Safe ... Private BATH is with v. hot water but without Door & with glass Window watch the room ... HOTEL is big Size with 3 floors & There is a Kitchen beside F.D., They said: you can use, & Wi-Fi at room or reception was strong … STAFF are 24 hr. & some speak English & add +4% for Card payment & they gave me room at 3rd. last floor in spite my requirement during far booking but they supply me with important Info. that there is Bus from (Ankify) port to (Mahajanga).

3 night booking. I arrived at about 9pm on the first night after a long and tiring journey, but my room was not ready. I had to wait about 30 minutes whilst staff went to get towels and soap, as well as a floor-standing fan - there was a fan already in the room but it was broken with the guard cover on the floor. I asked about a room safe, and after a short wait 2 staff members came back in to the room carrying a large, shoddy looking wooden stand and a room safe. The safe was in a terrible condition and looked like it was about 50 years old. There was an a/c unit in the room but it was broken and not working. The internet was extremely slow (avg 20kbps!) and the towels supplied were cheap, paper thin & smelt terrible. There was no seat on the toilet bowl - seriously, how could any hotel offer a room to visitors that had no seat on the toilet bowl! The power went off for 2 or 3 hours at about 6am during the first morning which meant no electricity for the fan, making the room very hot and uncomfortable. Why was there no back-up generator? Also that first morning there was a problem with the water supply for the bathroom, I contacted staff and after a short wait the problem was resolved. That night the water supply went off again, but this time they were unable to fix it so they brought 2 buckets of cold water and a cup into the room for me to use to get washed! The next morning the water supply was still off. At this point I had had enough and decided to check out.
