Very pleasant stay

Hotel is very, very dated and in desperate need of refurbishment. Our room was large and comfortable enough and the bed/towels were clean. However, the room was extremely cold. It was double glazed but obviously well past it's sell by date and in need of renewal. The bottom window pane was an opening one and you could freeze food with the cold draught that came through it. The heating was on but radiator rarely got hot - it was somewhere between lukewarm and tepid and obviously not adequate enough for the room. There were damp stains on the ceiling, wallpaper was peeling in parts and black mould spots on the curtain lining which says how cold/damp the room was. We were with a coach party and just about the whole coach said their rooms were cold. Some had side sea views and others had front sea views (which was what we had) so it wasn't just our room that was cold. Tea/coffee/milk is replenished daily as are the towels. One time when the towels were changed we were left with a dirty/"rusty" stained hand towel which was promptly taken back to reception. Having said that the staff are very helpful, friendly and bend over backwards to make sure you have a pleasant stay. There is a good choice for breakfast and you choose your evening meal from the menu at breakfast. Some complain that they don't want to choose their evening meal when having their breakfast but in my opinion by doing that it creates a well oiled restaurant as when you come down for your evening meal, as soon as you sit down you are served so there's no waiting. I personally don't have a problem with that scenario. Evening meals were varied and there was an excellent choice for a 3 course meal finished off with tea or coffee. If something wasn't on the menu and you would like it, just ask and it will be done for you.

The Hydro Hotel was booked for our party to stay there by FC Isle of Man for a recent football game. The hotel was nice and clean and although a little walk along the promenade to the bars. The hotel staff were good and friendly. The breakfast spread was excellent with plenty to offer

A decent stay for the price with good breakfast. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I do not remember the lovely lady’s name who helped me. She helped me arrange for cabs and answered all my questions about Isle of Man and travelling around it, patiently and with a smile of the face.

Stayed at the Hydro Hotel in Douglas for one night whilst visiting the Isle of Man. It is a dated hotel, but so are many of the other hotels on the Island. But it’s a clean hotel and the room was spacious, and had a great sea view. Staff were attentive and friendly, which made for a nice stay on the Island.

The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Manx Electric Railway but a long way from the town centre. There is however a frequent bus service. Our room was on the small side but had everything you would want and was attractively decorated. No sea view as is the case with most of these Victorian seafront hotels as they have only limited frontage; some rooms have side sea view. The shower had limited pressure (we were on the 5th floor) but was very hot. There was one day when the hotel was cold and in immediate response to complaints the heating was taken off the timer and switched to 24 hours. Our room was serviced daily. The food in the restaurant was invariably excellent. Evening meals are ordered at breakfast which reduces waste and improves quality. It also makes service quicker. All staff were friendly and professional - they clearly wanted everyone to have a good time. Reception is not always manned but inquiries can usually be dealt with in the bar next door. This hotel would be a struggle for anyone disabled. There are no ground floor rooms and the single lift stops between floors so that you have to go up or down a few stairs to get to your room, also negotiating 2 heavy fire doors. We would be happy to use the Hydro again.

Excellent hotel clean and tidy hotel good food nice hot plates and good amount of food friendly staff I found the shower a bit small for me to get into but I would certainly consider coming again possibly early in the year probably a coach holiday

Hotel was very dated and not suitable for disabilities as there are plenty of stairs throughout. Food and staff were excellent! There was a wide variety of food and the staff provided a nice and friendly service and nothing was too much trouble.

The hotel definitely needs refurbishing and updating. Our fifth floor room was a decent size and relatively clean. One quilt cover looked like it was years old because it was cream coloured. Bathroom OK except for shower drain ......... absolutely black and full of scum and hair. Self-service breakfast was good, and dinner was OK. The downside, you had to order it at breakfast. The staff were pleasant and polite. Not good for people with mobility issues as steps into hotel entrance and stairs from the lift to all rooms.
