The bathroom is too crowded, shared by men and women. I was busy in the morning and couldn't rush. I hope there would be more space. The breakfast is good and provided free of charge, including eggs, juice and milk.

Because the travel plan changed, we booked a hostel at short notice. You know, it's not easy to book such a cheap bed in Edinburgh. The place is not difficult to find, but the stairs are small and it's difficult to move luggage. The toilet and bathroom are small, but they can be used. Breakfast is provided, and you can cook for yourself. It's very close to the station, and there are many shops nearby, including McDonald's.

Staff is great. The bathroom and toilets are filthy. 50% of showers out of order. Making 2 showers available for the whole hostel. 2 toilets as well. Corners abd sink and walls covered in mold. No separation men women Apparently there will be works in November. But until then the conditions that customers PAY ANYWAY are sub standards.

The place is pleasant enough an I was very lucky to have a room with very, very quiet ladies on a Friday night, but the whole place is baking hot, extremely poorly ventilated and humid. The sheets felt damp and the bathroom ceiling is an ecosystem of mould.

I loved my stay in the Baxter Hostel! Staff is really sweet and welcoming, the bedroom I had was comfy with a locker big enough for my sport bag and my backpack, plus breakfast is included. Only negative point is that bathroom need renovations, but that’s it.

Staff are good and the response is fast when you send messages. HOWEVER- Very run down with pealing wall paper in dorm. Small rooms with hardly any space to move round. Communal spaces are limited to the kitchen and no place to sit when busy to have food. Only 2 showers and 2 toilets for over 40 beds- no separation between male and female either. Read what other travellers have to say about this place before booking.

Excellent little hostel, great location, very clean and the staff were friendly and chatty too. The kitchen was a little hub, I wished I had booked for longer than only a night. Ear plugs Coffee and tea Facilities to cook Cosy friendly atmosphere Nice vibe Central location!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I hate to write anything negative, it’s only minor to be fair: 🚿 shower rooms being mixed/ ltd space for changing & privacy. I did briefly discuss this with the staff, they are aware and are actively looking at options moving forward. Polite suggestion: Maybe a rotation of male/female designated time, that guests sign up for on check in. ….which would save the guests showering early hours and disturbing others (a couple of girls in our room showered at 3am eeekkkk). Maybe changing rooms be made from the other unused stalls? Maybe 🤔

I was dubious about the stay as a solo woman in the big city but there was an event on which sent the price of all my usual hotels sky high so I found The Baxter as an alternative. The location is amazing - just across the road from the Balmoral hotel. The bed was clean & no problems. I felt safe here and my belongings were safe too. It's not a place that you go to relax and don't expect your own space or much privacy in a dorm - it's a good travel hub that you can get your head down for the night with no dramas. I would definitely use again.
