we have not been to The Royal Oak for 'years' so when we heard it was under new management we thought we'd give it a go. Glad we did ! Considering the team there only opened the place three weeks ago that have done a brilliant job. Unfortunately we decided to go on Father's Day - my bad ! - it was packed. Never the less, we were looked after admirably. Pleasant staff - good food - good price point. We will be going again but not o such a busy day!! Thank you Royal Oak team... Keep up the good work.

My friend and me where on the way up to St Bees to see our friends and called in. The restaurant was spotless, the food was excellent and the landlady Jess was very friendly. She explained she has only just taken over 2 weeks ago. This is one of a few that I can say was excellent. They also can offer accommodation. I will be calling again soon. John

It's not often I feel the need, the need to write a review but I felt this restaurant menu is very misleading I ordered a "slow cooked brisket sandwich". Which had a detailed description including a "rich gravy dip". What arrived was a burger bun with some cold thick cut lumps of meat, cold French fries and a nice fresh looking salad. And no gravy dip ? As this was on the sandwich menu I hadn't expected it to come in a burger bun and in a sentence: it was very disappointing. My partner ordered a Mediterranean veg lasagne for £16.50 which was plonked on the plate barely warm and possibly a microwave meal from the taste. The cutlery was the wrong way round on all the tables we could see but the charming waiter did say he was new to the job and seemed very nice and understanding, but the food was so disappointing you couldn't recommend it to anyone. Overpriced and underwhelming.

Open again after being temporarily closed for a few days let’s hope it remains open for the rest is the year and into the future after these testing issues. In this sunny April weather the beer garden is an ideal sheltered area to enjoy and relax .

We can’t express how amazing the staff were at my dad’s funeral tea . The food was delicious and never ending ! The new refurbishment has changed the look of the pub completely. We strongly recommend trying out this beautiful country pub in a lovely Lakeland village

We visited The Royal Oak tonight to celebrate my husbands birthday. This was our first visit since the new owners took over. Everything about our visit was perfect. The Royal Oak has a very welcoming ambience. We had a very warm welcome, shown to our table and drinks order taken. Everything on the menu sounded lovely, and it was difficult to choose from the great choice. Our food came well presented, was extremely tasty, and our steak was cooked to perfection. All staff was attentive, offering a perfect service. Thank you to all at The Royal Oak, we had a lovely meal, and we will definitely be back very soon.

Really lovely people running this pub. They booked us in last minute so we knew there would be a wait. The wait was longer than expected but we knew it was one of their first weekends reopened and they were really so attentive and apologetic that it didn’t matter. They even bought us a round while we waited. Food was really delicious and well worth the wait. Only slight negative was the price of the puddings was a bit high but I think they have been looking at their menu and prices and reevaluating as they go along.

After hearing a new couple had recently taken over we decided to give it a go. This place has become our new favourite go to pub. The food and service was outstanding, a minority may have suggested this place as expensive but the food is excellent quality and worth every penny, so much so we ended up having 3 courses. We can’t wait to go back next week and try it again! All the best of luck to the new owners that are doing a tremendous job. I didn’t get any photos of the food I was to excited to eat it but did snap one of the dessert.

Jack & Ashley have just taken over the pub, they where very welcoming and the pub has such a warming feeling. Can't wait until they get the rooms to stay sorted as we will certainly booking. Especially if Ashley pursuades Jack to get a hot tub for the Annex cottage to rent. Thank you we will be back soon Carl, Anita and family
