Helpful reception staff, sorting out a taxi, an alarm call, and where to eat. Staff at the bar and restaurant were great even though so busy with Christmas events.Pretty Christmas decorations and trees.Food delicious. Clean, comfortable....and surprisingly quiet

Great location with excellent staff at Reception. Our family put on a large function and all aspects of this were excellent. Thank you. So, I heartily recommend The Devon Hotel, except...
...we experienced a couple of wrinkles on the food and beverage side of things.
The restaurant staff were great but two nights in a row we were unable to have most of the dessert options we wanted because the kitchen staff had gone home and the ovens were switched off and unusable (just after 9:30 on the Friday evening) or the next night when the kitchen staff had already put the chemicals in to clean the ovens (before 9:30).
The coffee is terrible and to be avoided at all costs. Drink the much better instant coffee provided in your room for free.
Now we know the pitfalls we will have a perfect stay when we return as we know what to avoid - unless management of course actually corrects these errors, which would be ideal. I have to say , though, with coffee that bad and what must be an obvious pattern in poor sales in aspects of restaurant service, I am not even sure there is anyone actually managing the F&B side of things.

Staff were friendly. Price was reasonable. Restaurant/Bar on-site. Room was small with low bulkhead and doorway entry to room. My husband hit his head - there was no signage or markings to bring attention to the hazard. Again the ceiling in the gym was very low when trying to run on the treadmill. Pillows were lumpy which made for an uncomfortable sleep.

Couldn't have asked for more in this price range. Nice and quiet, very clean, fantastic restaurant and friendly staff. Certainly a considerable cut above the leading chains in the same price bracket.
