Masseria Salamina

We stayed for a week and it was superb. The hospitality we received was warm and welcoming throughout our stay. The Masseria is a wonderful building retaining and showing off its heritage. Beautiful old stone and marble floors, arches, carved doors, barrel vaulted ceilings and elegant original furniture. It was a real treat to stay in such a place. Modern conveniences aren’t ignored though - the wifi speed was as good as we have at home, the bathroom was nicely appointed and spacious and the swimming pool and surrounding pool area were lovely. The pool was extremely clean. Wherever you looked there are places to sit scattered around the outside of the building - some sunny, some shady. The gardens are colourful and well kept. There is another covered area for lunch by the pool area and a small bar for drinks during the day and always a member of staff on hand if you need anything. We had room 33 upstairs in the main part of the Villa and it was lovely to walk up the old stairs and through the grand sitting room and ante room to get to our room. Our bed was a superking size, the air conditioning was excellent (it was very hot outside during our stay) and there was a fridge. We had a view of the large internal courtyard and the hills in the background. The courtyard is used for breakfast and dinner during the summer. It is a lovely place to eat surrounded by the old walls and lit at night. The food was superb and either grown on the Masseria or locally. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience of Puglia cuisine. So many different types of pasta, meats, sauces, cheeses and lots of vegetables and herbs and all beautifully presented. All the breads and cakes are made on the premises too. The waiting staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. Service was excellent and it was a joy to eat there which we did every night. The other star of the show is the olive oil produced on the estate! We took part in an olive oil history and tasting session which was very interesting. We would definitely have brought some home but couldn’t as we were flying. At least we know what to look out for when buying olive oil in future. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here. Genuine hospitality, superb food and service, beautiful pool and lovely old building.

We enjoyed everything about our stay here. Our room, the surroundings, the staff - everything was great. The interior was beautiful, authentic and clean, and the outdoor area was equally beautiful. The courtyard restaurant was lovely with a nice and friendly staff. Many waiters did not speak English well, but they were very welcoming and communication was overall easy. While the food appeared fresh and homemade, for some reason it lacked a little extra flavor (and salt) at times, but overall a good dining experience with excellent wine and coffee. From the masseria, it’s easy to access other destinations and sights by car which was important to us, so the location is excellent. Our only “negative” remark is that the pool area is bombarded with loud kids in the afternoon, and if you’re looking for a quiet and relaxing afternoon after sightseeing, beware of this. Thanks for a lovely stay - we will definitely come back when visiting Puglia again!

Cannot recommend this place enough. It's a working farm that looks like a castle and treats guests like royalty. Three nights were not enough to take it all in. This working farm is simply beautiful and the modern touches are just right--keeping the integrity of the property while providing all the comforts. It is a place to stay just for the relaxation and beauty, but it is also convenient located to visit various other sites of magical Puglia. The food was fabulous and the staff wonderful. My only complaint is that we didn't have enough time there to simply luxuriate. I plan to go back!

I recently visited Masseria Salamina for a week and I can't say enough about it. It was beautiful, immaculately clean, the location is great and the staff was the absolute best. Fillipo, the owner of the masseria, was extremely accommodating and helpful. We didn't have a car while we were there and he helped us with securing local transportation and restaurant recommendations. We had to do nothing while we were there. I would like to visit again but in the summer so I can take advantage of their beautiful pool. I highly recommend Masseria Salamina!

We stayed here for 3 nights during the August Italian holidays. The hotel had mostly Italian families which we honestly enjoyed so much. After 16 months of COVID, to see families enjoy each other in a lovely setting enhanced our holiday. We used the property as a base--visited Matera on the way from Pasteum and the Amalfi coast, say Alberobello on day 2 and Polignano A Mare on day 3. Every day after sight-seeing, we were delighted to return to this property, and relax by the pool or on the veranda outside our room. Wifi was not strong but it forced us to relax and enjoy our surroundings. Breakfast was included and delicious and we opted to eat dinner here every night as well. With local food well-prepared in a castle-like setting, how could we not enjoy ourselves? We opted to stay in the simple suites which are the second floor in the converted barn, which had good wifi, a nice sitting room with couch in addition to a kitchenette. On our final day, we requested and got a nice tour of property from the owner. The Masseria is over 400 years old, with a major renovation in 1777, so lots to see and learn about. The working farm with olive groves added to the charm of the experience.
