The Sword Inn Hand

It’s been a while, well worth the visit though. Great food (Sunday lunch), the roast dinner was amazing, the staff friendly, great service (thank you Alex and the crew), and the Where’s my Sword Pale Ale from Barons Brewery, Great Hormead, went down very well. Highly recommend a visit if you have not already, you won’t be disappointed.

Went on a wander and saw this pub next to a (Saxon?) Church. Very pretty- saw the roasts coming out and decided it was lunchtime. Staff were friendly and the food - roast lamb with tasty trimmings - was great. It was fairly pricy - about £27 for a roast and a coffee- but a well done meal in a lovely setting. My only gripe was the compulsory tipping. I am pretty sure it's illegal. This practice needs to stop as it makes assumptions, puts customers in an awkward position and sours what should be a pleasant lunch. All venues - stop this. The irony is I had about a fiver I was going to tip them with as - until that assumption - the service was good.

We had Sunday lunch at the Sword in Hand yesterday and it was wonderful. It is a cosy and historic pub in a beautiful little village in Hertfordshire. We were given a warm welcome and the staff and Jeremy were very professional and considerate. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. Having just spent 4 days in London I would say that this was one of the best meal and dinning experiences I have had in my time in the UK this week. We had a lovely family gathering and will continue to do so for all future events. Thank you to all for a special afternoon.

The service was second to none. We were the second sitting for lunch and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and came at exactly the right time, you never felt rushed but you were never waiting. For a very busy sitting with lots of covers the service was personable. We will definitely be back.

Stayed two nights in delightful a chalet type accommodation in pub grounds. There for a family wedding. Well managed and served evening meal for about 40 guests pre evening wedding day meal. Excellent cooked breakfasts too.

Stayed 3 nights in the stable rooms. Everything good after refurbishment. Lighting could be brighter. Continental breakfast in the room was good, cooked one in the pub at weekends. Went to restaurant for dinner with family. Food and service was impecable, would recommend.

What a gem. Totally outstanding. Service, food, atmosphere, staff all first class. The food was as good as a Michelin star restaurant. Highly recommend to anyone. Dog friendly area which is unusual for such high calibre. Officially now our first choice.

The Sword in Hand, in the pretty village of Westmill, is one of the most welcoming traditional pub restaurants that you could ever wish to find. The first joy is the friendly bar area that makes you feel you are in a real pub and with its wide range of ales and lagers, including some unique offerings, and its knowlegable, friendly bar staff, you just know you are on a winner. The restaurant has a warm atmosphere and you immediately feel that you are important to the friendly, helpful staff, who work hard to make your meal special. Nothing is too much trouble. All the food we had was interesting , well prepared and presented. Plenty of choice of wines to accompany. Really tasty full English breakfast for those who choose to stay overnight .The rooms are quite small, but immaculately clean and well equipped. In short, this is a place to go back to!

Beautiful and well appointed rooms in back grounds area of Pub. TV, heater, comfortable bed, spotless bathroom. In room breakfast with cereal, fresh bread and milk and jelly and butter in refrigerator. Toaster and hot water maker for tea as well. Located exactly next to church in Westmill and fields next to location with lamb too! Extremely quiet and very comfortable. Highly recommend
