Good place to stay

We couldn’t be happier with our stay at the royal savoy. Our trip wouldn’t have been the same without the outstanding service from Miguel eduardo loureiro. The lovely South African man who has gone above and beyond to make every part of our stay amazing. Nothing was too much hassle for him and he is such a special member of staff to have. Such a credit to the hotel and we will be back specifically to see him again! Thank you so much Miguel. You really are the best and outshine from everyone with your personality and service!

The Royal Savoy is a real gem sitting on the cliff face offering marvellous views from street (reception) level. If you love an action packed, music thumping pool scene (8 floors down) this hotel (and more likely Madeira) is not for you. This place offered the perfect venue for a very relaxing and peaceful 5 night vitamin D recharge. Here the staff were the shining stars and nothing was too much trouble (extra mattress topper and fresh milk delivered super fast). Comfy and plentiful sun loungers, one heated salt water pool and another standard, provided plenty of space to swim. Furthermore, a life guard attended sea planche offered a fun diving opportunity. As bed and breakfast guests only the selection was excellent with quality fresh juices, hot cooked selection, eggs made to order and patisserie (& more) to choose from. Make sure you fill your boots since taking food for later is strictly discouraged. Great cocktails (with plentiful alcohol) and nibbles were a daily indulgence and the “medicinal” rum, honey, lemon & orange drink, Poncha was a delight. A pretty bridge walkway offers access to amenities to sister hotel, the Savoy Palace with a magnificent lagoon style pool and within a short walk a good selection of restaurants, pubs and shops. Funchal town is a 10/15 minute walk. Highly recommend the cable car ride from the Funchal front up to Mounte Village and taking the Toboggan ride 2km down. (The walk back could prove challenging for those like me with a dodgy knee, so a taxi is an option. Spa treatment was fantastic but gets booked up quickly so would suggest booking before arrival to avoid disappointment.

Absolutely loved this hotel, staff were so helpful & attentive. Very clean, maid service perfect, including Chocolates on pillow and fresh water every evening. Welcome fruit, Madeira wine and beautiful chocolate Easter egg upon arrival. We had a garden room which was perfect for us, terrace with direct access to the pool & sea. We chose a rate with breakfast included which was delicious, had lunch a couple of times at the pool bar which was great (fish soup, amazing) Pool & access to the sea via steps was easy, immaculate gardens. Also terrace bar at the top, street level which gave views for miles. We ate out every night so can’t comment on the restaurant at night, but we did get access to the Savoy Palace galaxia sky-bar so went there late one evening for cocktails - it’s stunning up there. Minor critism was that there were a few cocktails we asked for that they could not make due to a lack of grenadine and other basic ingredients….(no tequila sunrise, Singapore sling, pornstar martini etc) but we did enjoy the espresso martini. This was our first time in Madeira and we’ll definitely be back, highly recommend the Royal Savoy

We enjoyed our stay. The location is excellent for Funchal Centre, Piet and routes out whether by car or bus. Friendly staff always available. Excellent facilities and food. We will return. Sun, sea & service-what more could we need?

Great stay. A true 5 star experience. The staff were superb and would always go over and above to ensure everything was a good experience. Location is good, not too far from the centre and a good selection of bars and restaurants nearby

Great location with sea access and 15 mins walk into town. Good bus services nearby. Room with balcony and sea view was very comfortable. Good service from all levels of staff. Good range of food, restaurants & bars. Variety of other bars & restaurants available nearby within 5 mins walk My only concern was some street hassle from Savoy timeshare touts, and at times the hotel felt more of a timeshare than a full luxury hotel experience

We loved it. Yes the hotel is not brand new and some floor tiles in the room had fine cracks. A brand new hotel doesn't have so much space in the communal areas inside and out. If you want a rectangular pool with sunbeds in a line this isn't for you. If you appreciate small groups tucked away in different areas of pools and gardens, then book it. The only maintenance noise was sanding down the decking, but just move away !!! Plenty of other areas. Check in was quick and professional with option of leaving a credit for food and drinks to sign for. We opted not to. It's quite normal. Walking to town we were offered various tours as it's the main route for people coming off cruise ships, but to be greeted with 'good morning' , followed by 'ok have a good day', is not to me intrusive. We opted for a ground floor 1008 and loved being able to walk straight out to gardens and pools. If you want sea views and to sit on your balcony ,then book it. My only problem was with the woman in the restaurant at breakfast who talked on her phone constantly with no regard for others. Hopefully she will get laryngitis soon. Lastly a mention of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. I find if you treat people with respect, you normally have it returned and more. Could you work in hospitality?
