I strongly advise families with children to avoid this hotel. Our experience on the very first day was shocking and traumatizing.
While using the onsen, my 7-year-old son accidentally let his towel touch the water. We fully understand and respect onsen etiquette, but what followed was absolutely unacceptable. A clearly intoxicated Japanese male guest aggressively rushed over, snatched the towel directly from my 7-year-old's hands, threw it violently on the wet floor, and proceeded to scream at him.
There is a massive difference between pointing out a mistake and bullying a frightened child. This was an act of aggression that left my son terrified.
The hotel's management is completely to blame for this safety void. There was no staff supervision in the spa area, and they seemingly allow visibly drunk and unstable individuals to use the shared facilities. This is a huge safety risk. A hotel that cannot guarantee the basic safety and dignity of its guests—especially children—does not deserve your money.
