Jen Penang Georgetown by Shangri-La

The duvet in the room was damp and had a strange smell. I asked housekeeping for another one, but it was the same. The crib sheets also felt unclean, as my baby developed a rash on their face and body after sleeping on them. This quality does not meet Shangri-La standards.

The location is excellent, making it very convenient to get around. It's a great family-friendly hotel in the old town. Although some facilities feel a bit dated, it still offers the basic guarantees of a Shangri-La hotel. Plus, there's a mall and supermarket right next door.

Overall, it was a good stay. We booked a family room with a king bed and a sofa bed, which was very comfortable for our family of four. The breakfast was also decent. Georgetown's buildings, including the hotel, are quite old. The hotel's location is good, but walking around is really tiring, mainly due to the hot weather. So, we combined walking with some taxi rides.

The hotel is conveniently located right next to The TOP, Penang's iconic circular skyscraper, making it easy to navigate back to, especially during evening strolls. Directly opposite is the GAMA supermarket, and next door is 1st Avenue Mall. There are also plenty of restaurants across the street, offering great convenience for shopping and dining. A 10-minute walk to the right will lead you to several durian shops, New Lane Hawker Centre, and the Sun Yat-Sen Museum. Turning left, you can walk to the famous Street Art area, which isn't just about murals; every corner is photo-worthy, and the shops are fantastic for browsing, truly capturing the essence of Penang. The hotel breakfast selection isn't extensive, but it's sufficient. The noodle bar offers various delicious options, and I also tried the freshly made roti with dipping sauce, which was quite good.

Booked a family room this time, and both the adults and kids slept soundly. The hotel's location is super convenient, right in the heart of George Town, making it easy to walk to the street art and the Pinang Peranakan Mansion.

The hotel's location is great. During my three-day stay, I could easily walk to Mural Street every day, and enjoy durian and highly-rated restaurants at my leisure. There's also a shopping mall nearby with a supermarket, Watsons, and an ATM for currency exchange. The weekend art market is also within easy walking distance. The hotel breakfast was good. Each day, there was a local specialty dish prepared outside the lobby that you could go and pick up yourself, along with freshly squeezed juice. There's also a piano in the lobby on the first floor, with performances in the evenings.
