Not as good for us, as anticipated from the other reviews on Trustpilot. We were given Room 9 for 2 nights, on a stay that included the 8-course ‘taster menu’ on first night. Room 9 was a decent sized room but in need of updating with some newer furniture. Upon entering the room, it was very cold and stale. It would have benefited from pre-heating, even on low, to give a more welcoming atmosphere. Although once turned on, the radiators fairly quickly warmed the room. A leaflet on the bed advised that the rooms were sanitised between bookings by a special machine (which we never saw over the 3 days), however the dusty blinds seemed to give an impression that such sanitation had not been carried out. (see pic). Tea provisions in the room were fine and a small table-top fridge is provided with long-life milk and water. The bowl of fruit was also appreciated. The Bathroom was clean and a good size, but bath/shower water temperature was luke warm for the duration. As an engineer, I believe that this might have been due to the mixing valve failing as the water within the basin was always hotter. Water pressure was also low and bath and took a long time to fill. The 8-course tasting meal was priced at £60 per head and was not worth that much in our opinion. (This amount would pay for A La Carte meals for both nights, offering better value). In reality, only six courses were provided plus a tiny sorbet refresher after the fish course, and coffee/petit-fours to finish. We have had better menu’s/portion sizes at lower prices at established restaurants. We did not take the wine pairing option at £35/head and did not notice other guests doing so. The breakfasts were ok and plentiful but could have been served hotter, especially the second day, as the conservatory room was not very warm. We had fish on our second night which was nice and decent sized portions, however we were surprised at how quickly it was served and also wondered if the chips were pre-cooked and re-heated? The bar area was welcoming/relaxing with log-burner etc. The staff were all friendly and kept themselves busy. Overall, the hotel rating of 3-star on a well known booking site appears to be a fair.

Stayed here several times in a lodge. The rooms are large with a superking bed, a comfortable settee and a couple of armchairs. There is more than enough wardrobe and drawer space. The bathroom is luxurious and the toiletries have the most wonderful smell. Each lodge has a small veranda with table and chairs. The 8 course taster menu is always very good and the breakfast choices are many. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming.

The restaurant management staff need to be trained in how to deal courteously with customers and kitchen staff instructed on how to cook food properly. Undercooked over priced cold food, rude waiting staff, inaccurate billing resulted in a special occasion being completely ruined. Management were rude, sarcastic and completely disinterested when a complaint was made. Wouldn't set foot in this place again and will warn others to do the same.

This turned out to be a lucky find! Having booked a a room for a two night stay we then had a call to say they would upgrade us to a lodge. This was situated at the back of the hotel and was very spacious and well equipped, with a large bath and shower room. We ate in the hotel on both evenings and the food was very good each time. The menu was quite varied and everything was beautifully cooked and presented. Breakfast was also excellent. The location in a little village is handy for Kielder Water and for Hadrian’s Wall. I am sure we shall return in the near future.

This trip was to celebrate my birthday and we booked because of the amazing menu The menu wasn’t as extensive which was disappointing we asked the waitress about the taster menu she was very helpful and went and asked a member of the kitchen team who was in the restaurant this person was very sharp In Their reply saying they can’t have it we need 24 hour notice I wasn’t best pleased at what I’d over heard as we didn’t want it there and then but on the third After our meal which was basic pub food we returned to our room it was red hot we opened windows and tried to turn heating down by 930 it was becoming unbearable tried ringing reception eventually my husband went looking for help young gentleman came up and managed to sort the issue but was early hour of the morning before it was a comfortable temperature. The manager needs to make it clearer on website that they have a reduced menu

Lovely food, staff were wonderful especially the young lady who served our fabulous breakfast on the first day, she was very busy and in her words "got a little confused" but with her sparkling personality and smile it was fine, second day not as busy and the "Scarborough" waitress was also lovely. We've stayed before once in a cabin at the back of the hotel, lovely accommodation. This time we stayed in Room nine clean, tidy a little dated but it didn't deter from anything. My one and only complaint was that the room gets the full noise of the kitchen extractor. I feel that customers should be informed about this, my husband is deaf so it was fine for him but unfortunately not for me.

Hotel was lovely and clean had everything we need, my only issue was the restaurant I had been giving a cold shepherds pie and veg for my tea that I ordered. Was not made fresh obviously just shoved in the oven then pulled out and they havnt checked the temperature because mine was cold.

Lovely cosy restaurant, nice and warm on a couple of really cold nights. Great food at a competitive price, roaring fire for a drink after dining and the nicest waitress in Northumberland. Will definitely be back.
