Stayed for two nights three of us two rooms. We found everything very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. We were greeted by the owner who was very friendly and explained everything that we needed to know. The breakfast was superb and cannot fault it. Lots of little extra touches like cake in our rooms. Everything was well stocked with fresh milk and water daily. Would definitely recommend this guesthouse to anyone and only 6 miles or so to Whitby.

Me and my wife spent 2 lovely days at the Firs, Mary and the staff couldn't do enough for us, the room the food we're outstanding. We had an evening meal on the Tuesday evening the food was excellent and Mary made me a special Syrup sponge and custard which was very nice, we would highly recommend a stay here.

Very peaceful, friendly and welcoming. Pet friendly too. Excellent location for Runswick beach/village. Lovely surprise too: butter, bread and jams all made on site. Lovely! A surprise few days away to mark our 42nd wedding anniversay.

An amazing week, Mandy & her staff were brilliant, breakfast choice was everything from a Yorkshire fry up to fresh fruit and yoghurt. We had our pet whippet with us & the the firs was a great choice. Room was clean, we will definitely be visiting again!

A long weekend with The Firs Guesthouse was the perfect place to stay. Their generousity and service was outstanding; bedrooms, breakfasts and the Fish Restaurant too. So helpful with advice on visiting local attractions. They suggested I shoulkd the bus service to get around - especially travelling to Whitby. Just £2 per trip -anywhere on route. No more parking fees and limited times. One visit isn't enough- I'll to bookjvisit before the winter arrives.

This is our 2nd visit to the Firs Guesthouse. It’s such a warm and friendly place that’s also very dog friendly too. The breakfast choices are fantastic. The staff are very polite and cannot do enough for you.

I highly recommend, from walking in, to walking out everything was as expected. The food was excellent and the rooms were exceptionally clean. There was a coffee machine in the room too, along with cake, which was delicious. A quiet, relaxing place out of the hustle & bustle.

Although The Firs Guest House is ideally placed for visiting the lovely Runswick Bay, walking the coastal paths or sightseeing, our stay was not as hoped for. We had a first floor, deluxe King room as part of a group (all of retirement age) taking 5 rooms. Sadly we found the experience rather disappointing and encountered several problems during our stay. Our simply furnished, first floor, 'Seaside' themed room was in the eaves, which made head room at a premium. The narrow, steep stairs and a hard to open door (due to a new carpet) makes getting to and in the room a bit of a 'gym' experience and not for the unfit! The ensuite, in this deluxe room, is modern with a shower over the jacuzzi bath. The bed is comfortable with good quality linen and a choice of pillows. There is a pod coffee machine plus tea and coffee available with milk and water kept in a small fridge. It would have been nice to have the biscuits or cake on the hospitality tray that were mentioned in previous reviews. As one couple in the group brought their dog, we were in the smaller, dog friendly dining area /guest lounge for our breakfasts and dinner during our stay. This has a little bar, a small corner sofa and dining tables. Sadly, on the occasions we chose to dine elsewhere in the evenings, we had nowhere to sit for drinks and a chat when we returned early, as it was closed and by 8.30/9pm. Not the cosy guest facility advertised. For breakfast, there were unlimited beverages, toast and excellent homemade preserves. The breakfast menu is to be applauded, with a vast choice and huge portions but this proved a challenge for the kitchen, perhaps due to the size of the party. Mistakes were made with the plated breakfast orders and scrambled egg especially, was cold on several occasions ....possibly due to the distance from the kitchen to this dining area. However, hats off to the lovely waiting staff (especially Andy) who coped amazingly, rectifying all of the issues quickly and cheerfully. Evening dining in the "Runswick Bay Catch" was not the restaurant experience we had hoped for. Again, because of the dog, we were in the small dining area plus other guests with their dog. The menu is varied and because of our party size, we pre-ordered on check in to assist the kitchen but still encountered issues in the evening. The Seafood chowder was served in a cottage loaf 'bowl' but there was a lack of any liquid remaining when served, leaving the somewhat tasteless, shredded fish, potato and corn behind. My good sized smoked salmon parcels were served on a very generous bed of rocket but the light cream cheese filling was sadly, overpowered by a lot of garlic, the taste of which remained with me for a long time! Several of our party ordered the Seafood Gratin, myself included and each one was cold on service and returned to the kitchen for a hot replacement.....along with most of the vegetable dishes that were sadly, also cold. My husband ordered the Persian Lamb with Rice

We stayed at The Firs recently with a large party of 9. Our room was a ground floor ( as I have back problem ) we also had our large dog with us all agreed as it's dog friendly B&B. We were offered a choice of two rooms on arrival and chose ours as the other had a settee in it and nowhere for our dogs crate to go. I had stated we had a crate on booking. So lucky we arrived earlier than our last family in our party. The room was a little hard to get into as the hall lighting sensors weren't working and main switch we discovered was at reception you could not see the lock. The door knob also caught your knuckles ( they had a cut out done previously) but a change to a lever would be better I feel. Unpacking was difficult as the chest of drawers might look ok but not suitable to put clothes in for one let alone two. So I laid mine on the floor of the wardrobe and hanging other items. Husband kept his clothes in his case on the crate or next to the bed but it was still a squeeze. Small fridge balanced on tiny table with kettle cups so forth and supplies such as tea bags sugar ( sugar had got damp and was lumpy.) Sadly we didn't get to have a cuppa first morning as our milk was very off, curdled in the tea. I suspect this was left from a previous guest and not changed. Together with a kettle still with water in it.Our room phone wasn't working according to Janet on arrival so we couldnt ring about the milk. Ensuite was an experience the loo has been placed so close to the wall unless a child or very tiny adult you could not sit on it but scrunch on the side with toilet roll directly next to your head the towel rail above your head so you sat under the towels and the grab rail placed so you could not grab it. The ensuite was built as wet room but not that big and with a shower curtain that kept coming off the rings. Less then half on when we arrived. The bath mat got soaked most showers. I'd suggest owners go and use this room as a guest and ensuite and see just how it doesn't work. Plus to come back later to find wet towels folded and rehung on a radiator that wasnt on at all. Last day I played with the radiator and got it on. Suggest this should have been on for us during our stay. That would have helped considerably drying towels. The first night we all ate at the guest house with Runswick Bay Seafood Catch restaurant menu. We were all asked to pre order on arrival. Sadly even pre ordering didn't help as my husbands Seafood Chowder which was rather tasteless and all the soup was soaked up into the bread roll soup bowl. Then our seafood gratin of which 4 of us ordered was served stone cold and on stone cold plates Andy our amazing waiter soon took them back to the kitchen. Sadly we also had cold vegetables too that had to be returned. My husband's beef with mustard mash nearly took his head off with how much mustard was put in the mash. He loves this normally and not a faint hearted person but this made his nose run.. If Andy hadnt been so br
