__WeChat46033****Much better than expected! It's very close to Wan Chai MTR Station Exit C, about 200 meters away. Along the way, there are many small eateries, and also many Caucasians and South Asians starting to drink and hang out on the streets in the afternoon. There's also a trendy Hong Kong dessert shop nearby that's been quite popular recently, but the queue was too long so I didn't go in. By chance, I stumbled into a noodle shop called 'Jiang Gong Yan Xuan' (姜公严选), which was indeed delicious, but surprisingly didn't accept Octopus or Alipay. Like many hotels in Hong Kong, the room is small, but the interior space here felt quite reasonable and didn't give off a cramped feeling. The bathroom was tiny, with the door hitting my knees when sitting on the toilet, but it was clean and newly renovated, which was a plus. We got complimentary coffee upon check-in, and the reception staff were very enthusiastic and helped with our luggage. However, be sure to request a room away from the elevator; I noticed one room directly next to the elevator on our floor, which would definitely have poor sound insulation. Staying in the middle of the corridor, there were no issues.

MM624408****The room was very spacious, equipped with a kitchenette and all the necessary dinnerware. The views were open and expansive. While the location might be a bit challenging for first-time visitors to Hong Kong, the hotel offers several complimentary shuttle services to and from Central daily. The Pedder Street shuttle stop is conveniently located at the bus station near Central MTR Exit D1. There's also a stop at IFC, but I haven't personally used it, so it's best to inquire with the hotel for specific boarding points. If you prefer taking public transport, from Admiralty Station Exit B, turn right for about ten meters onto Tamar Street, then turn right again and walk twenty meters to the bus stop for the 12A. It's only two stops to the hotel, at the 'YWCA' stop. From there, walk back about twenty meters to reach the hotel. When heading back to the hotel from Central, the 12A bus is also the best option. It will first go to Admiralty Bus Terminus and stop for a few minutes while the driver takes a break. You can simply wait on the bus; there's no need to purchase another ticket. I figured this out after staying for four days, as the 12A is a short circular route specifically designed for MacDonnell Road residents. Every time I queued at Admiralty, I'd see people already on board, leading me to conclude they had traveled from Central and were waiting to go up the hill back to MacDonnell Road.

GGuest UserWe have been staying at this boutique hotel for more than three times in the past. We stayed here four nights this time and were happy with most of the other staff except one person who had been working on the first three nights of our stay. The incident happened when we arrived around 10pm on 1 December 2025. The male reception was good looking but not helpful. When we walked into our unit (02) it was dark so we could not see our room properly and found it so different from the unit we used to stay on previous times. I then went down to ask if we could be assigned a unit on the other side (01). Knowing that a few guests had not arrived yet, but he sort of casually declined. I said I will come down next morning to check if any 01 unit would be available...... After we woke up, we got used to the new layout so we were fine staying on although being offered a 01 unit the next morning. It is actually not a big deal, but each time after that 1st of Dec when we saw this man on the reception, he never looked at us nor addressed us, and one time I walked behind him when he got into the lift. He did not look at me nor ask if I need to go into the lift, he just closed the door.... It was very rude and being revengefully neglected each time when we returned to the hotel after dinner was actually not a pleasant experience. We were however, very impressed each morning when we went out for breakfast, the team had a morning meeting at the reception, and everyone was very very nice. I do not understand why at night when there was no supervision, someone's attitude could be so neglecting. At 5.30am on 5 Dec when we left for the airport, no one would even hold the door for us while we ferried our luggage out. I had to hold the door open for my 77 year old husband to bring 5 pieces of luggage out. I am sure that staff would never have been trained like this based on our observation of the morning meeting. Perhaps a camera at reception could be on and checked to ensure decent customer service from the reception to the guests (just as the team was being briefed and shown to act professionally and welcoming during the daily morning staff session)? By the way, Mercer Central offered tea, coffee, coffee mate, sugar, etc, but no bottled water. After travelling in China for 48 days, we did find this a bit odd to have no bottled water on a late arrival time. I just wonder if it is feasible for 2 complimentary or at least fee for usage bottles of water on the 1st night only. Closer to 11pm, we had to make our way to the reception to buy water @HK$5 each. So guests particularly late arrivals please make sure that you buy water prior to arrival as 7 Eleven is not close, bring your own tooth brush and slippers. Although advocating for green, hotels in China if not already provided in the room, will offer guests to pick up at reception as needed. Being green is completely understood, but it will be great to give reminder to guests prior to arrival so they are prepared, or at least making guests aware within the check in process. Although we prefer Mercer Central because of the space and handy location, we would really need to reconsider whether we should return/recommend our friends to such an unwelcome home.

GGuest UserStayed 3 nights | Solo traveler The only positive aspect of this property is its convenient location. Please note that a late check-in fee applies if prior notice is not given, which should be clearly stated at the time of booking. The room on the first night was very different from the advertised photos. The condition was poor, with peeling wallpaper, giving the impression of a room under repair, and not suitable to be sold as accommodation. Fortunately, the staff assisted in changing my room, so I stayed there for only one night. The room on the following nights was in better condition and more in line with what was booked, suitable for a solo traveler. The most serious incident occurred when an older woman (whom I believe to be the property owner) entered my room without any prior notice or permission while I was getting dressed. Thankfully, my luggage was blocking the door. She then continued knocking persistently, and assuming it was an emergency, I opened the door. She entered the room with a maintenance worker to give instructions for repairs, without acknowledging me or respecting my privacy, and left after a brief apology. After this incident, the staff informed me that the door would be repaired, which I agreed to. I went out for the entire day and returned to the hotel around 1:00 AM. At that time, the key card did not function properly, and after briefly entering and exiting the room, the key card completely stopped working, leaving me unable to access my room. As it was late at night, I had to contact the staff and wait for quite some time before the issue was resolved. I was finally able to re-enter my room at approximately 1:38 AM. I would like to thank the staff member who eventually came to assist and resolved the issue. However, I was informed that luggage storage would be provided free of charge only if a “very good” review was posted on Google, which felt unprofessional and inappropriate. Overall, this experience seriously compromised my privacy and sense of safety. I would not recommend this property to travelers who value privacy and proper service standards.

GGuest UserThe location is perfect, very close to the train stations. The room was nice, although unfortunately, I was assigned one of the darker rooms, mainly due to the interior decoration rather than the view. I would suggest a bit more friendliness and a warmer welcome from the staff. I understand that cultural differences may influence warmth and hospitality, but in this industry, making guests feel truly welcome is essential. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and appreciated the overall experience.

CChiapanecoReally impressed by this hostel. Very well run and thought-out. Well-designed dorm rooms, AC all day. Each bed has a lamp and two universal plugs. Great common area (though fills up sometimes) with a full kitchen, including two induction burners, a rice cooker, an air fryer and a large fridge/freezer. Fast and reliable wifi. Never had to wait long for the elevator. Clear signage on the front to find the hostel and check-in (a rarity in China). Very competent staff who speak good English. Located right by a metro station, a Wellcome grocery store and Temple Street night market. Walking distance to Mong Kok area but it's best to take the metro anywhere else. I would 100% stay here again.

GGuest UserIt’s a very good hotel with friendly staff, and spacious given that it’s in Hong Kong 🤣 cleanliness is good too, although no disposable amenities and drinking water provided. Although you can take the water from lobby, but would prefer to have bottled water. Location is not exactly at the busy streets and do expect some walking to nearest convenience stores/metro station. Overall I’m satisfied with the hotel and will reconsider starting again.

MM297565****This place is decent. The hygiene is pretty good, though the room is a bit small. That's understandable given that space is at a premium on Hong Kong Island. The price was great during the off-season, especially with fewer people around due to the typhoon. The guy at the front desk was very enthusiastic. It was drizzling all day, and because of the typhoon, the MTR to Hong Kong Island was temporarily shut down. I tried to hail a Didi for ages in the morning; taxis didn't want to go out because of the typhoon, and Didi drivers were price gouging, asking for HKD 300 or even HKD 500. Some even accepted the order but never showed up and didn't cancel. It wasn't even that far. Finally, an uncle accepted the order and showed up in the rain, and he didn't even charge extra! I couldn't believe it, he was a truly honest person. The wind and rain weren't even that bad, and there were few cars on the road. I chatted with the driver; he spoke Cantonese, and we spoke Mandarin, but we could mostly understand each other. Older people are often more down-to-earth. The driver was over 50, born in Hong Kong, with ancestral roots in Guangdong. His daughter is still young. It's not easy for men to provide for their families. We arrived at the hotel quickly, and the fare was HKD 123. We gave the driver a 10 RMB note as a tip to thank him.
