Independence Courthouse Motel

Location: The hotel has a wonderful location, close to everything in town, serving as a great halfway house between Las Vegas and Yosemite, and convenient for activities like hiking to Manzanar

This was a "cheap" option for an overnight stay since the plan was going to Manzanar the following day. I was impressed by the hospitality of the manager. He even called a couple hours before we arrived because he was concerned, we would have no options for dinner because of our late arrival. At check-in, the manager gave a "hometown" friendly vibe and suggested places to visit while we were in the area. Of course, for the price we didn't expect first class accommodations, but everything appeared clean and truly a bargain for the price.

I found this hotel for my husband for his hiking trip with his brother. When they got in, at midnight, they were greeted by half a dozen cockroaches in the room. Instead of trying to figure out this situation in the dead of night, they moved on to another hotel. Hotel called him when they realized he hadn’t checked in, and he relayed that they had left due to cockroaches, to which one of the owners responded, “That’s bullsh*t, we have the cleanest property in town.” As my husband was out hiking that weekend, I called the hotel to make sure we would get a refund. I was told by the owner that she had gone into the room and there were no cockroaches anywhere, insinuating that my husband was a liar. She then proceeded to tell me how he had mishandled the situation. I don’t take kindly to that. And too bad we have photos, with identifying carpet and wallpaper. And too bad if you have one room with half a dozen cockroaches, you definitely have more rooms with cockroaches.
