"Read the fine print! We booked the highest level room balcony and ocean view. However on checkin we had balcony and Partial ocean view looking at a carpark. The only rooms that offer both are on level 4 and 5. Management were apologetic but unable to provide the room booked as they were at capacity. But they did offer complimentary breakfast and parking which was appreciated. The room we paid top dollar for was very disappointing but the service management provided means we will give them another go but request a room on 4 or 5."

"Last minute booking due to flight cancellation. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was delicious and worth the money, much better value than those in the Newcastle Airport. "This was a great property which I believe is fairly new. Very large room, with kitchenette and great bathroom. Toiletries supplied were first class. Very contemporary in the design and layout and reception staff were most helpful on arrival and took us up to our room. The king size bed was luxurious, comfortable as were the pillows. I would definitely stay there again in the future."

"I would love to give 5 however our room is a bit odd. The aircon is a split system & it was installed very low and blowing from side of the bedhead. It was blowing directly to our face and I couldn’t sleep well. Other than that, it’s a good location, lots of good food options in the Wests club and in surrounding areas. Value for mine if you’re staying with kids"

"Great stay at Rydges Newcastle. Awesome location on the harbour. Close to beaches and with ample dining options right on your doorstep.
The only let down was the buffet breakfast. Not a great selection of food, and the staff were totally overwhelmed with the breakfast crowd. Food was very slow to come from the egg station and tables were left unclean."

GGuest UserWhat I loved about the Lucky Hotel was plentiful.
The staff were great. The location was central to everything. The best cookie shop in the World is next door. Happy hour every night from 5-7pm. House wines and beers $6. Each room had a lovely touch of different quotes. The interior of the hotel is very well done with some quirky touches and their chili margaritas were delicious.
Will very happily stay there again when I am in Newcastle.

GGuest UserHad a fantastic stay at Noah's over Christmas. The location is second to none, opposite Newcastle Beach. Our room had a balcony that overlooked the beach which was a highlight. We dined in the restaurant as well as enjoying room service. All the staff we dealt with were great. I'll definitely make Noah's my accommodation of choice when visiting Newcastle in the future.

I had mistakenly booked two rooms for the wrong date, and although our reservation date had already passed when we arrived a day later, they fixed the issue for us with no extra charge. I’m very happy with their service and highly recommend this place.

GGuest UserIt takes about 2 hours to drive from Sydney to the Mercure Charlestown Hotel in Newcastle. It was less than 1pm when I checked in at the hotel front desk, but the lady at the front desk was very enthusiastic and checked me in immediately.
We booked a double bed + single bed room. The room was very clean. The window of the room faces the front yard, and there is a big road outside the yard, but you can't hear any noise even if you open the windows in the room, it's very quiet.
The room is cleaned every day and the bed is very clean.
Hotel restaurant: We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights, and had breakfast at his restaurant for $27/person. The waiter was very enthusiastic and specifically asked us if we wanted boiled eggs or fried poached eggs (unlike Westerners who use butter to scramble eggs). The breakfast is not as plentiful as in a 5-star hotel, but we were very satisfied with the two breakfasts and the style was enough for us to choose from.
We had dinner out on the first night and at his restaurant on the second night. From appetizers + main dishes + desserts, every dish is exquisitely prepared. I usually don’t like taking pictures, but I couldn’t help but take a picture when I saw the appetizers.
The service staff are very polite and always ask if we are satisfied after serving the food.
Swimming pool: The reason why I chose this hotel was because it has an outdoor swimming pool. After checking in, I read the instructions saying that I couldn't swim after 6pm, so I went to ask the front desk. The front desk told me that there is no time limit and you can travel at any time, which is great.
The pool is not big and changes a bit quickly from shallow to deep, but we can swim so it doesn't matter. If you have a family with children who cannot swim, it is best to bring a life preserver.
During this month, from 5 pm to 7 pm, the water is warm and the sunshine is not strong. It is highly recommended.
Note, if breakfast is not included in the reservation, both breakfast and dinner need to be booked at the front desk.
The parking lot at his place is free, which is another reason why I booked his place. The parking lot is divided into front and back yards. The window of my room faces the front, so I parked in the front yard.
I rarely write a review with so many words, just because I enjoyed my stay! 😊

My preference of room was booked out for this stay
So I chose single room with shared bathroom and was a bit unsure what to expect
It wasn't terrible at all
I enjoyed having access to the balcony
I slept so soundly,I didn't move all night
I did dine in the bistro one evening the food was ready quickly and it was lovely
I was provided fresh towels for each of the 3 days I was a guest
I didn't utilise the communal kitchen but I think it is a great addition

GGuest UserThe room is very large, and there is a large jacuzzi, you can check in by yourself, but I don’t have a driver license, and there was a problem with the verification point. I arrived late. I called the hotel at night and the staff sent a code. . No toothpaste, toothbrush cups, no slippers, you need to bring your own, everything else is good, living near Jesmond shopping center is relatively convenient

SSheenyoritaThis place isn’t that bad for just a place to sleep. Our towels and bedsheets are clean but they have some stains. Our toilet is small not the best as it smells like sh*t even if there is nothing in there. Not bad for its price. For breakfast, we had brewed coffee which, cereals and you can also have bread. Enough to start your day. As this is budget we didn’t expect much especially for its price.

Communal area presented well. The lift worked to go upwards from ground to level one, but it wasn’t functioning when we left (downwards function from level one to ground).
Room 1 - upon entering had a horrible dirty shoe smell. It has a major shower drainage problem where the fall of the shower floor runs into the room, possibly over time water on the carpet is causing the constant smell.
The hand basin drain was also blocked.
The renovation was modern, however the wear and tear is now evident. Could do with a bond clean and some maintenance. The ratings could improve easily if maintenance and cleanliness were addressed because the service and location are great.
