The Gulaal

From the moment our car pulled up to the hotel and we got a glimpse of its facade, we were excited. The staff opened the gate for the car to pull inside and came to the car to grab our luggage. Babu pulled the entrance door open for us and welcomed us with amazing warmth. He told us to consider this hotel our second home and everyone made sure we truly felt like we were at home but treated us like royalty. Everyone was so incredibly kind that we were awe struck. After checking in, we were shown to the room they had reserved for us. Words could not express how ecstatic we were to get a glimpse of the magnificent room and set foot inside. The room was luxurious and spacious with a king’s canopy bed, window bench seats with thick cushions, table and chair, desk and chair, vanity, luggage racks, closet and safe, mini fridge, a table with coffee, tea, and free large bottles of water. The bathroom was tremendous as well with full amenities including full toiletries kit, slippers, and bath robes. Walking through the courtyard and halls of this magnificent haveli style hotel, with its ***y carefully hand picked artifacts was like stepping into a Time Machine into an otherworldly era. The pool was clean and beautiful. There were ***y lounge chairs around the pool, some with covered canopies, some without. The space was very serene and relaxing. The pool water was not heated but perfect for a hot day. The rooftop dining room overlooking the fort was beautifully set up. There were ***y seating options as well as some with canopies. We had a welcome drink on the roof and enjoyed the views of the fort at night. We also had breakfast there one morning and enjoyed the canopy setting with the curtains blocking the bright sunlight that shone from one side The breakfast was a la carte and delicious. Babu and the rest of the staff were always ready to serve, no matter what we were doing. They were incredibly polite, kind, friendly, and courteous. I cannot say enough about our experience at this hotel. I highly recommend staying here.

This hotel is ideally situated within walking distance of the fort or short tuktuk ride. The staff were absolutely amazing and so friendly. It was like being in a family . We ended up with the Fort view suite which was superb with a large balcony area with sunbeds. We ate there 2 nights and food was great and good value. Breakfasts also v good. The property is built in the style of an old Haveli and is beautiful. Pool area very atmospheric with loads of sunbeds. (If I could suggest 1 small point of improvement it would be to offer proper menus with explanations of the dishes for people less familiar with iRajasthani cuisine ). But overall - highly recommended!

An excellent place to stay. The hotel is quite new - it was built about twelve years ago, we were told - but is in traditonal style and is beautifully fitted out and decorated. It is just outside the town centre, and therefore away from the considerable hustle and bustle there, and has great views of the fort from its roof terrace where meals are served. We felt this was a much better pkace to stay than in one of the (***y) hotels in the fort itself. Our room was huge, the bed very comfortable, and the staff great. There is a good sized pool. Meals are all vegetarian and good, and there is no alcohol on sale in the hotel, but there is no problem about brigning some in.

The Gulaal is a unique and beautifully designed haveli and a very convenient location for exploring interesting sights of Jaisalmer. We found the room and the public areas and facilities worked very, but most of all all of the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Gulaal to any discerning travellers.

It was such a pleasant stay! Although just for one night, we slept really well and had a very cozy and really delicious dinner/ breakfast. The rooms were fantastic, the people were incredibly friendly. The view of the “Shonar Kella” from the rooftop was an added bonus.

I had booked 2 rooms and stayed for 3 nights. Virendra and his family have put in extra-ordinary effort to make this place into Haveli - Hotel ! The team is lead from the front by Virendra himself. The rooms are spacious and have all conveniences rightly placed. Cleanliness / hygiene is well maintained. Roof Top restaurant's view of the Jaisalmer Fort is second to none in entire Jaisalmer. Best choies and value for Money in Jaisalmer. Keep up the good work Virendra !

Perfectly located for exploring in and around Jaisalmer fort, the Gulaal is a beautiful boutique hotel designed for the discerning traveler. The service is outstanding, and the food ( all vegetarian) is excellent. Virendra Singh and his team (notably Shibu and Ajay Singh) were warmly hospitable, ready to assist us with every aspect of our visit to Jaisalmer. Can’t wait to come back here!

From the moment we walked into this hotel we were in a little piece of heaven. The smell of the lemon grass diffusers immediately relaxed you. The decor is beautiful, bedrooms and beds are SO comfortable. Amazing huge shower. The pool area was wonderful. My daughter and I treated ourselves to an Indian head massage by husband and wife spa staff from the hotel - a truly wonderful experience. The restaurant had lovely view of Forte, food was delicious and reasonable. The staff are so friendly, especially the restaurant staff - nothing a problem and were so funny, made us giggle! I couldn't fault this hotel except it would be nicer to have a tip box in the reception area, like other hotels/haveli's we've been to. Leaving the tips on the reception table is a bit awkward! Otherwise, I HIGHLY recommend!

We loved our stay for : - the exterior and interior design and the attention given to detail - the view of Jaislamer Fort from the rooftop restaurant - our colourful, clean and comfortable room - the friendly staff and the way they wanted so much to please and take care of us And above all, for Virendra, the amazing owner and soul of the hotel, always present, always helpful. I have often written in reviews how important the presence of a friendly, helpful owner or ***ager is for a guest in a hotel. We also admired Virendra for his love of the beautiful, old, intricately carved sandstone havelis/***sions of Jaisalmer and for his continuous effort to preserve them.
