La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Charleston Riverview

This was the first time I booked a room at this hotel, and it will be the LAST! On arrival, I noted an odd odor in room 331, but, as I had many events planned, I deposited my bags and left the room, making a mental note to obtain an air freshener. Upon my return later that evening, the odor persisted despite the Febreeze I had purchased in my attempt to neutralize the odor. Finally, at 3:00 am the next morning, I came awake, unable to bear that horrible smell any longer. It was then that I was finally able to determine the nature of the odor: musty, damp carpet! I immediately attempted to contact the front desk to request a better room, however, there was no answer after numerous attempts. The phone simply rang and rang, unanswered by any staff member. Undeterred, I put on my bathrobe and made my way downstairs. After I found the attendant, she offered to provide me with another room "sight unseen" despite my insistence that I would need to inspect the new room before accepting the space. She was apparently concerned that once I inspected the new room, and, perhaps, contaminated the space (my paraphrase), her staff would then be required "to clean two rooms instead of one." I then insisted that this staff member accompany me to inspect the new room, in that case, so that she could then bear witness to any problems that may be present without my being required to make another vain attempt at contacting her. After we made our way to the new room, I stopped and attempted to hand the card key to the staff member. I did this after seeing the condition of the door, (i.e. peeled, chipped paint). The staff member refused to take the card key. I then opened the door and inspected the room. The peeling paint of the room's door matched the chipped enamel of the bathtub which was poorly concealed with cheap white paint which was wearing away. Overall my impression of this "hotel" is that it is shabby, poorly maintained, improperly staffed, and inadequately managed. The rooms are decrepit, unclean, smelly, and sorely in need of attention. Prior to this experience, I had pre-booked another room at this same establishment for a time in the future when I would again be traveling to Charleston. Following this terrible experience, however, I subsequently canceled that booking. I will NEVER book a room from this company again.

Good stay, great view from the Charleston Marina. Hotel is clean; staff team is friendly and good price. Definitely it was a good choice!

Not really worth almost $200 for one night, lobby was nice, staff were nice but that was about it. Room had mold in bathroom and under the tv desk. Multiple exposed cords for the tv and WiFi. No fridge in room and both run and bathroom were small. Stayed here based on the reviews but wish I would have stayed somewhere else. Breakfast was not great either.

The property is old and dirty. The staff is RUDE! We checked in around 6:30 and immediately left to eat dinner. When we got back to our room after we ate and found dirty sheets on the bed. We are now waiting for clean sheets to be delivered and we will have to change the bedding ourselves.

I liked the room was clean and the area was nice. I had noisy next room who played guitar and sang at 12:15 AM. So I called the front desk and they solved the issue. Next night the same thing happened after 1AM. I called the front desk three times. There was no answer. So I had to go downstairs in the middle of night to let him know that. It was not professional he didn’t answer the phones. Not even once.

First let me start by saying the front desk lady was not friendly at all, she knew I wanted a water view and gives me a room in the back looking at a tree, can’t even see the bridge with this dirty windows. I asked her about it and get excuse was I did my reservation with a 3rd party, that has nothing to do with it. She could had said, I will change your room but instead she said, you can cancel if you like WHAT? I was floored. Grab my key and went to my room. The place looks run down, don’t charge people over $100 for a motel kinda look. The smell is horrible, people smoking **** in the rooms and this is supposed to be non smoking smh. Bathroom lights need new bulbs, wood chipped door smh. Lamps need new shades. Only reason I stayed is because my money was limited but will NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN. One and done. Find an owner that will spend money remodeling.

The building was run down and in need of major renovations. The mattress was old, soft and lumpy. The choice for breakfast was terrible. We were very disappointed in our stay.
