Yes the parking is tough but it’s not that bad. The place is dated but it’s works. The staff is helpful. The location is great. We had a quiet studio that faced the ocean. Although we could hear neighbors it wasn’t bad. Was our first time on the big island so sandy beaches are hard to find. We used the pool met lots of nice folks that were there also. Overall it was good. Please try the big island grill too. Good family Hawaiian style food but the service is great.

Cannot beat the location. Walking distance to shops, beautiful views across the street. Only 60 parking spots for 144 units. Our unit needed updating but it was clean. We had a problem with ants (common in Hawaii) and there is a limited kitchen (only microwave, fridge and toaster-not very well equipped). Maintenance responded quickly the first time we called for tv not working (missing remote), closet door off the track, broken lock on slider. They never responded when we called about a broken light above the sink. This place needs attention. I would not go in the hot tub because it was not clean. Pool seemed ok. Laundry onsite but you better bring quarters and the change machine was broken.

We have been to the Kona Islander half a dozen times. The overall convenience is the best part, followed only by the view. The restaurants are in easy walking distance. The grounds are beautiful. The pool area is very nice too.

The room was dirty and musty smelling. The first night was so uncomfortable that we moved to a hotel across the street so we can enjoy our vacation. An additional expense we did not plan on, but our trip was much more enjoyable NOT staying at the Islander. Very small frig, TV that did not work, and a floor so dirty that my shower water the next morning was almost mud on the shower floor. Location was the only plus - across from the ocean. Unfortunately many homeless people reside along the ocean. Disheartening seeing these people struggling. Hotel staff not helpful. Told us to contact the management company instead of helping us with our issues. I read reviews before we left for Kona and most were about insects. We did not see insects.

If you are able to park somewhere near this dump, let the adventure begin. Signing waivers to indicate you will be billed for any police intervention is ALWAYS reassuring! After being insulted at the front cage you can stumble along the primitive trail of broken asphalt and obstacles, until you are able to climb the stairs to egress your dumpster. Be careful when opening the door (if the combo works) and watch out for the cockroaches, ants and beetles. Be prepared to be stifled by the overwhelming stench of bleach and antiseptic. Once inside be aware that you will not be able to turn around because the aisles are only 24 - 30" wide. If you are carrying any luggage , there is no room to run away now. Don't head to the bathroom just yet though. It is highly unlikely the drains will work in either the toilet or the shower. They will gladly take forced donations to fix their poorly maintained plumbing though. Don't look too closely because, not only is the smoke detector inoperative, it is not hooked to any others in the building. Diving deeper in you will notice furnishing reminiscent of the 70'ss Brady bunch adventures, except they were clean then. Behold there is a bed, but not really. A recycled box spring is more like it. Good luck getting the reclaimed 24"television to work, since there is no operational remote (unless you are within 12"). Forget about the amenities the obnoxiously loud air condition has proven to put out some cold air, if you can handle the racket. At least that is better than the obnoxious noise from loud car exhaust and booming stereos. Ahh, the bliss of dumpster living... I can't beleive people live like this.... REALLY??? Photos coming....

This was booked thru ******* in which RedAwning is the one who handles the booking for the Property owners. Our room was on the ground level, it was advertised as recently renovated, but the cleanliness of it was filthy dirty with dust! The a/c was so gross with dust in it looked like it never been cleaned. The TV screen you could write your name on it, the tracks in the entrance way and patio were disgusting. When you turned off the a/c the tv would come on? Nothing had been wiped down yet they charge this fee for cleaning? I got in touch with RedAwning when we got back there answer was we should have complained when we were there? Really? Should it not of been cleaned properly so we didn’t have to complain? The pictures I sent showed it all but they turn a blind eye after reading more reviews on this place. Our words of advice .. do not book at this place even tho it’s convenient to being downtown there is nicer places, they charge a lot of money and what you get is a disgusting filthy place to stay. Thank goodness our friends had a nicer, cleaner place and we got to stay the majority of the time with them.

I stayed here by myself for one week, it’s located right in the heart of everything, but sitting in my room with an ocean view, I never felt unsafe. The room had a little kitchenette, a bathroom, and a very comfortable bed. It was within walking distance of everything I needed, parking was limited, but there was street parking when the regular parking filled up. If I come back, I would definitely stay here again.

Riding Motorcycles, or know someone who rides, READ THIS! We had 2 bikes in one stall to check in. Right away the property manager started yelling at us we could not park there and told us to move. If we stayed parked there she would have our bikes towed and we would be fined. I said can we just check in, and then you show us where you would like us to park? Then she said we had no right to be on the property if we were not checked in. ??? We were there to check in?? It only got worse, and the spot she wanted us to use did not have room for 2 Harleys, one would be sticking outside the yellow posts. Again she said if we were not entirely inside posts we would be towed. Do not stay here. Owner's rep was no help. When we booked, owner's rep knew we were riding motorcycles. Then claimed she did not realize we would be parking the motorcycles on site.

The good: The grounds are amazing, and the location is right in the heart of Kona. The bad: The service is HORRIBLE. The units are individually owned with the front desk just coordinating check ins. The woman that works the desk in the daytime has zero zero zero Aloha spirit. I would advise anyone to NOT book a room managed by Soleil. Our room (206) had roaches and was not in good condition. We also had to call and BEG for 2 days just to get toilet paper. Be aware of the parking situation, there are only enough spaces for 25% of the units. If you come in after 4 or so, you are on your own to find parking somewhere in Kona. If you are renting from an owner that cares and keeps up the unit, it would be a good stay. (Minus the parking situation) Sadly, Soleil management couldn't care less about their guests.
