Grecotel Filoxenia

We stayed two nights at the Grecotel Filoxenia and were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade. The hotel grounds are beautiful, with well-kept gardens and tall palm trees giving an exotic atmosphere. The pools are stunning and impeccably maintained, as are the beach facilities — everything very functional and well cared for. The exterior is truly impressive, but the interior feels rather generic, like an international hotel you could find anywhere. Our room, though clearly recently renovated, was not very large (even with the upgrade), and the bathroom was extremely small. On the positive side, we enjoyed a veranda overlooking the garden. The rooms are not well soundproofed, which can be an issue. We were also surprised to find a bathrobe with a very worn sleeve — not what you would expect in a hotel of this category. Breakfast was abundant, with plenty of choice. For lunch, however, I had a salad that seemed straight out of a supermarket bag. Overall: a spectacular setting, beautiful and efficient, with excellent outdoor spaces, though the interiors and attention to detail felt a little disappointing.

Stayed for one night with a small group tour of 14 and our guide . Check in was time consuming as they needed passport details . All the other hotels on our trip had been provided with these in advance. We had requested a walk in shower , which was lovely. Kindly they had also given us a ground floor room & a complimentary bottle of wine . A lovely gesture. Our room was really modern & comfortable, as was the rest of the hotel. We asked for some pool towels but these never arrived . Possibly the lady had just finished her day and was heading home . Dinner was lovely, a really nice buffet with some great Greek dishes and the only time I saw taramasalata in 12 days !!! We ate breakfast on the terrace , again a great choice of dishes . Drinks & wine were a very reasonable price for a hotel . A most enjoyable stay . Somehow we forgot to empty our safe , we had passports, cards etc with us , so an iPad , cash, jewellery , spare sunglasses were left behind. We have had the same safe on a cruise ship , so we’re familiar with it . I really need to commend the staff who went above & beyond to get our items returned to us ( at our cost ) to our last destination in Athens before we returned home . Thank You so much .

We stayed at Grecotel Filoxenia for 7 nights in September and we can say that it was an extremely successful holiday. The hotel is located in a more secluded and very quiet area of Kalamata, and is very clean and well maintained with access to the private beach. I made the reservation directly with Grecotel and as such I benefited from a transfer to the airport. Also at check-in I was informed that I received a suite instead of the room I had booked. It was wow. Very nice staff everywhere, reception, restaurant, cleaning, pool, beach, all very hardworking. We recommend this hotel to everyone! Thank you for lovely memories!

We stayed for 9 nights and had the most relaxing and enjoyable time. The hotel has been renovated to a very high standard. All the staff are so helpful, friendly and go out of their way to make your stay to ensure your stay is great. Particular shout outs for Antonis (the restaurant manager) an enormous asset to the hotel, works so hard from breakfast until last thing at night. Also Mando in the restaurant and Stavros. We stayed in a deluxe seafront suite which was beautiful with views over kalamata bay, the swimming pools and the mountains. We had half board and although not a fan of buffet, this was buffet with style ~ Probably helped as it was out of school term with 99% of guests being adults. There were staff constantly renewing and ensuring the food was presentable - very high standard and oysters on the appetisers! That was a first. The beach is spotless. The water in the morning is crystal clear. Although pebbles, take beach shoes to wear in the water and it’s ideal. The only negative point I would make is that there could be more of an atmosphere of an evening in the restaurant. Whilst eating, it would have been nice to have had some background music to listen to and to relax after with a drink. We visited local restaurants for lunch although the food in the hotel was delicious although a little expensive to have every day compared to local options. Kalamata old town, a short taxi ride away is delightful. Still very Greek and unspoilt by tourism with very reasonably priced places to eat and so friendly. A very special treat that should not be missed is a trip to Kastraki - a magical place in the mountain (about 10 mins in a taxi) where it’s the perfect place to watch the sunset and have cocktails. Absolutely cannot wait to go back! Have such post holiday blues since returning. Thank you Filoxenia.
