Hotel Alpina

We had two nights in Kandersteg and used the Alpina Hotel as our base. We had the family room, which gave us a large double bed with a further three single beds up in a loft space. My 11 and 12 year old loved the loft, as it gave them a bit of space to themselves and felt fun, however it may not be suitable for young children as it was accessed by open wooden stairs. The breakfast was continental, and included some lovely homemade Bircher muesli along with the expected breads, pastries, meats, cheeses and jams. Plenty to keep us going for a day of walking and swimming in the Oeschinensee. Whilst the hotel was furnished simply, and wasn’t modern, it was spotlessly clean, the beds were comfortable and we felt it was good value for money and had a great time here. Kandersteg itself is small, but there were several different options for eating out. The main attraction was the stunning mountain scenery, and the Gondala lift up to the Oeschinsee and toboggan run was about 15 minutes walk from the hotel.

Where the hotel is located Charming balcony with a breathtaking view of the mountains, enchanting bird sounds and convenient bus stop (free transportation with hotel city card). wonderful breakfast and large room. a nearby site, to mention a couple Lake Oeschinen, tobogan run, train station 8 minutes by foot, bus 3 minutes A tip: Obtain the hotel's city card. b) Request the first floor since there is no elevator. The receptionist was kindly and powerfully capable of carrying one of our bags to our room on floor two (we kept the other one in the reception). Along with providing us with a shared electric converter, he also permitted us to prepare our food close to the reception area( Cooking not allowed in this eco-friendly hotel) , We need to enter the hotel from road thru gravel ( so those are with heavy luggage be prepared to lift by hand for a minute)

What a fabulous place. We booked a last minute break to meet friends who live in Switzerland. We stumbled on this lovely accommodation. The hotel is a lovely Swiss style property. The welcome was very friendly and all details were explained. We came from England and needed an adapter plug which we were able to borrow with a deposit. The rooms are simple but great the beds are comfy, lovely views from the balconies. We were lucky enough to even get a small bath in our room. There is a recreational room that we used to play some board games that were for everyone to use. There is a mini bar style fridge where you can purchase drinks. There is also a lounge style seating area. Breakfast is fantastic here and absolute highlight. Continental select including croissants, cheeses, meats, cereals, yogurt and fresh baked bread. There are lots of drink choice both warm and cold. Staff are very attentive and polite. I would recommend this accommodation to others without a doubt.

This is a wonderful hotel operated by a Swiss couple. They really put their heart into the operation — prepare food, manage check-ins, etc. It is an older building. But, very clean and nice facility. They also have a few rooms that can accommodate 4 or more people. Room 33 & 34 were really nice. We had a couple meals here and those were good too. The only real suggestion I have is to have a usb or electric converter outlet. Other than that, it’s a good option for staying in this area. Also, the views from the hotel are outstanding. Really beautiful area that has postcard-like views all around. Highly recommended.

Wonderful although brief visit to beautiful Kandersteg we should have longer! The Alpina hotel was a comfortable, clean and friendly family run hotel we’d highly recommend. Great hearty breakfast was included. Easy to find with some great local restaurants within walking distance. Having snow falling was an added bonus.
