The Elephant Stables

One of the most amazing properties i have stayed at. Both Bandhara and Madu, the butler and chef, were amazing. They were attentive, responsive and spot on..great work guys..very impressed. The property does full justice to the $. The location, the chants from the Buddhist temple in the valley create the utmost serene atmosphere. Every amenity is top end and every detail looked after. Will visit again for sure and will highly recommend..cheers

This was my second visit to The Elephant Stables - and it was amazing! This beautiful and inviting small boutique hotel is incredibly hospitable. The hotel is designed to make you feel at home and pampered. Everyone there works together to ensure that you have an absolutely amazing time. Our group explored Kandy during the morning and returned in the afternoon for a much-needed swim. Nihal, the delightful barman, brought us refreshing cocktails poolside to help us cool down. While we were there, we had the most amazing breakfasts and dinners made by Indika, the master chef, and his team. All 6 of us agreed - the meals we had here were hands down, the best meals we had in Sri Lanka!

Superb hotel located in the hills above Kandy. Very peaceful setting with both outdoor and indoor dining with a varied menu which you have to order in advance . Our room was fantastic and had everything that was needed. The hotel staff, in particular the catering team, could not do enough for us and surpassed themselves when offering a selection of their curries - was enough to feed several people rather than just one person! Beautiful infinity pool with the added bonus of 2 friendly tortoises wandering about! Would thoroughly recommend this as a place to stay.

Beautiful boutique hotel, fabulous view, lots of character and charm. Staff were amazing, welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble, highly recommend!

This hotel was without fault, the rooms were spacious clean and comfortable. The location was stunning on the top of a hill above Kandy with magnificent views. The food was superb especially the plentiful and wide variety available for breakfast. But the best thing about this place is the people, they were friendly, attentive and courteous from start to finish. They gave us numerous rides to kandy, served us every meal and always had a smile and a nice conversation. Thank you to Manju and all the team at Elephant Stables!

Got a tuktuk up here for lunch. Beautiful food, lovely staff and an amazing view from beside the pool. Recommend- some great local food.

I am very torn about this place. The location, while a bit far from the centre of the town, is beautiful and offers great views over the hills of Kandy. The buildings and grounds are pretty, but much smaller than they seem online. There aren't any grounds or gardens and also the pool is much smaller than thought. All in all, the common areas need a little bit of love and seem rather run-down in some places. The pool is not heated and a little dirty in some places. While there are many great places to sit for food, there is a lack of general enjoyment in the garden and the big tent just looks like a huge obstacle in the nature. The room is quirky and totally sufficient. The bathroom was large, but everything seemed a bit mixed and unmatched, slightly old, forgotten and run-down. There surely is a lot of love poured into this place, but it needs to be updated and speak more one coherent design language. The staff is very nice and present at all times, but since the hotel is so small, it can feel a bit awkward at times and more like staying at a distant family member's house. The food was good and truly nothing to complain about, both dinner and breakfast, but for the high price of 40 USD per person for one Sri Lankan dinner just not special enough. We had a similar taste for 1/3rd of that price in many other locations in Sri Lanka. You also need to pre-book the exact dinner and breakfast time in advance, which makes your own stay a little inflexible. All in all, this is a nice hotel with love in it and great hosts, but really needs to adjust its price point or renovate and include some more amenities. At its current state, there are sadly many other better alternatives in Kandy.
