Our third stay at this stunning mountain top location and it just keeps getting better. The place has such a special atmosphere and is so calming. We have stayed in the Weavers on the ground floor and the Carpenters on the first floor, both are equally stunning. David and Marieke are utterly charming hosts who really go the extra mile to make guests welcome, i must mention the cleaner also as the rooms are literally spotless. The gin bar is a magical treat before dinner. The breakfast is a fit for champions and will set you up for the day. The tavernas in the village are just great and you can buy the best honey i have ever tasted at Vassilis shop down in the centre of the village. This is a truly special place..

What a wonderful place to stay. We did a babymoon in Corfu and this was our last stop and we were treated to wonderful hospitality and lovely chats by Marieke and David. Old Perithia is a great break from the coast, is cool and filled with wonderful mountain cuisine and great walking routes. Highly recommended.

We had the most wonderful five days at The Merchants House. It is in an idyllic spot and everything about the accommodation was comfortable ,spotlessly clean as well as authentic and full of beauty. The breakfasts were delicious from David's home made bread and Marieke's delicious jams to the shakshuka and scrambled eggs. The wines that are available in your room are also delicious. Marieke and David are wonderful hosts, so welcoming. They gave us great pointers as to walks ( it is an incredible area for wildflowers and the views are breathtaking). They are a really lovely couple. And the hotel is very, very special. We will be returning. thank you. Niamh and Finbar

Booking The Merchant’s House was just perfect, both Marieke and David made it a special place to unwind and relax. From the breakfast selection, really tasty and nutritious, to David’s Gin bar in the evening and the comfortable suites, staying a week here was just a pure delight. Looking forward to come back again soon

After much online research, the planets aligned and we found Saskia and Mark's beautiful B & B in Old Perithia where we were fortunate enough to lodge for three nights. Our stay wasn't nearly long enough! From the minute we contacted the Merchant's House to inquire, to the moment we (sadly) departed, we were taken care of like good friends by Mark and Saskia. They are exceptionally warm, generous, and knowledgeable people who enjoy spending time with their guests, getting to know them, dining with them, and ensuring they have the best possible experience on the island. The village of Old Perithia is beautiful and atmospheric with opportunities for lovely walks all around, flowery meadows, sea views, and easy access to amenities in a nearby town (providing you have a car, of course). The four (or five, depending on the season) tavernas neighboring the B & B serve fresh and delicious food at extremely reasonable prices. Each suite at Merchant's House is sumptuous, and not a single detail in decor or comfort has been overlooked. We loved our breakfasts, particularly when the weather was obliging and we could eat in the garden. In fact, we are still dreaming of thick Greek yogurt topped off with Mark's yummy fig compote. Our stay at Merchant's House was the highlight of our vacation in Corfu, and we are already planning a return visit. Do not miss an opportunity to stay at this unique place!

Mark and Saskia were perfect hosts from the moment we made the booking. Saskia was always available via email or phone to help with arrangements and Mark spoilt us with his knowledge of the area, recommendations and beautiful prosecco. The Merchants House really is a truly spectacular building set amoungst the delights of Old Peritihia. I would recommend to all wanting some luxury amoungst Corfu history.

Treat jostles with treat at The Merchant's House. From the beautifully appointed bedrooms and bathrooms to the scrumptious scrambled eggs and homemade preserves at breakfast, everything is just perfect. Mark and Saskia are such friendly, lovely people for whom nothing is too much trouble. From the very word go they helped us with just about everything...organising a birthday surprise for our friends, taking us on a fascinating guided tour in and around the village, recommending and booking restaurants and taxis, advising us where else to visit in Corfu, the list is endless....they even lent us a camera charger when we had misplaced ours. The setting of Old Perithia is truly magical. The nights are silent, the people and the wild flowers wonderful. Once you are in the village you won't want to leave, and the five tavernas give you every excuse not to. Our favourite was the Capricorn, where Costas cooks and his wife Corinna serves. For me, the gigantes, fried courgettes and tzatziki were out of this world. Be warned Mark and Saskia, we will be back!

The Merchants House is a collection of once-abandoned village houses that have been sympathetically restored. It is pretty much the only place in Old Perithia offering accommodation. We had what was once a weaver's room - all furnished with modern versions of the type of furniture that was once found in the original houses. All of the mod cons are there too - even a TV with Netflix (if you have an account already) and a good bathroom and shower. The owners were friendly and served breakfast on the patio in front of the houses. There are five tavernas in the village - all just a minute or two's walk away along the cobbled streets. We tried three of them and found them to be well-priced and with good menus. There is a bee farm on one side of the village that can be visited and from which we bought honey. The bee farmer also has a small shop (Old Perithia's only shop of any sort) where the honey and also handmade gifts can be bought - many made out of olive wood. Much of Old Perithia is still abandoned. It is an atmospheric place and very photogenic. Definitely worth a visit - as is The Merchants House.
