This is a historic building that dates back to 1548 and has gone through 11 owners. Today it is a spa hotel The hotel sits on a large piece of land, with herds of cattle and sheep in front of the door. The restaurant on the other side has a great view of the lake and a large meadow. Rabbits and squirrels often jump around in the meadow and forest. You can reach the lake through a path, or you can hike in the forest. From the elevator, you can feel that the hotel has a sense of age. The spa has a constant-temperature swimming pool, a cold pool, a hot pool, and an outdoor hot pool, facing a large area of grass and woods, which is really pleasant. The only thing to note is: if you check out at 11 o'clock, you must go to the spa before checking out. After 11 o'clock, there will be an additional charge of 20 pounds per person.

Amazing place, cant fault it. Old style decor, staff couldn’t make more of an effort, food amazing, we’ll be back again once the next outdoor pool is open, 5* stay. Outdoor walks definitely worth doing, short walk around the woods and down to the lake.

Stunning location and all round wonderful hotel. The spa was a perfect escape and the treatments were superb and exactly as described in the brochure. We loved our room and the food was top notch. What impressed us the most though was the service we received from the team at Armathwaite Hall, from the manager who originally sorted out our booking to ensure our requests were accommodated (sorry we didn’t get your name) but also to Alwin, Leah and Sara for their friendly, professional and welcoming service. We look forward to coming back, thank you!

Me and my partner have just stayed at The Armathwaite hotel and spa and it was an unforgettably romantic weekend break. The hotel and spa was amazing, with incredible atmosphere, especially the cosy open log fires in the evenings. The food deserves a review of its own and was as much of an experience as the hotel and spa itself. The staff have been amazing and couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a perfect stay, including going above and beyond to cater to our individual requests. Highly recommend staying here and we will certainly be visiting again!

It was so nice to return to Armathwaite Hall for a birthday celebration. We stayed in one of the garden suites with a view of lake Bassenthwaite. The hotel has recently refurbished the brasserie, now called The Grill and is a great new edition that blends perfectly with the rest of this beautiful hotel. Our evening meal was in The lake view restaurant and the food was outstanding, we then ended the evening with a cocktail in the art deco bar. The staff are always friendly yet professional and are what makes this hotel stand out above all others. A special Thank you to Liam for such good service.

Stayed 5 nights in this splendid historic estate is like being catapulted to 19th Century Downton Abbey. A superb property with palatial grounds set in a lake & mountain setting. Within just 5 days I had the pleasure of staying in 3 different types of accommodation to get the complete feel of the luxuries that Armathwaite Hall had to offer. I particularly enjoyed the sumptuous breakfast with an extensive spread which I would slowly consume over 2 long leisurely hours. They also have a great spa & pool where I had one of the most relaxing massages in ages. Special thanks to Richard Sidaway the Deputy GM, & to Mark Pienkowski Head of Front Office who personally ensured I had a most enjoyable experience. The enclose pictures says it all. Had an amazing 3 course Sunday lunch today which was gifted to us for Christmas. We received excellent hospitality from the staff in the Lake View restaurant and the food was exceptional. All of excellent quality, taste and presentation. We both chose the prawn cocktail for starter, lamb for main and crème brûlée for dessert, followed by coffee and mints.

We went for festive afternoon tea just prior to Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed it. The tea/coffee was flowing freely which was great and accompanied the delicious selection of sandwiches, savouries, scones and cakes and was a good balance between sweet and savoury. The scones were the best we have ever had and we have had several afternoon teas in the area - well done to the pastry chef. The selection of food served was great and had a twist on the Christmas period. The Christmas decorations at the hotel were fabulous and certainly put us in the mood for the Christmas celebrations, along with having a wonderful view over the Lakes and mountains. We enjoyed it so much we intend to attend again this year at similar time - thoroughly recommended.
