Marafiki Bungalows

We stayed for 4 nights and absolutely loved it. Marafiki has its own very special atmosphere of home, beauty, peace, and warmth. Staff and service were amazing, views and comfort astonishing. We very much hope to be back.

I loved the spot. It is immersed in lush greenery and you walk the paths as if you were in a botanical garden. The decor is totally astonishing. If you like local handicraft you will appreciate the architecture and objects which reflect Zanzibar traditional style, worked out with great care and respect for the local beauty. Even though the bungalow and terrace are shaded it was quite warm in the bedroom during the night but A/C works really quietly, no noise no hassle. The food is fresh and tasty - you can fill your stomach with breakfast for many hours. Plenty of fresh mango, passion fruit, papaya in many dishes, which was our favourite. We enjoyed village tour with the local person, yoga with matts overlooking the ocean and relaxing massage in the same spot. Nice competent staff, too.

good : staff at the front desk were trying to help out . neutral : food in the restaurant was hit or miss , sometimes good , sometimes bad bad : I don't normally write bad reviews, but maybe they can do some improvements . there was a bad smell coming from the toilet , we were in room 7b , we turned on the a/c to mask the smell and I became sick with runny nose and flu like symptoms. They tried to switch us to another room , but they were fully booked and we got stuck in there 2 nights . They need to figure out where the smell is coming from.

After a week and a half on the mainland doing multiple safaris, Marafiki Bungalows was absolutely the perfect place to end our honeymoon trip to reset and relax! We were met in the reception area with big smiles and a quick overview of the different excursions available in the area. Our room was beyond beautiful and we had a view of the pool and ocean and right across the way from the restaurant. I have never seen a more beautiful place! We walked up and down the beach on our first day and relaxed by the pool afterwards. The beaches were clean and clear, and even though there was a little sea****, it did not dissuade us from swimming in the ocean! They had delicious drinks and snacks to have by the pool as we sat poolside on their comfortable lounge beds. We booked a couple's massage overlooking the ocean and I can honestly say it was the best massage I've had in a long time! The amenities on the property are wonderful. Esther was kind enough to arrange a driver to pick up some medications from a nearby pharmacy for my husband, and then found us by the pool to deliver it. We were so grateful to her and it saved the day from potential hardships! The hotel was able to book multiple excursions for us including snorkeling, a trip to the northern part of the island, a spice farm, and a tour of Stone Town. The food was very delicious and varied; everything we had for breakfast, lunch, and dinner was wonderful! The cocktails were great as well! Above all, the entire staff at Marafiki Bungalows was incredibly kind, gracious, and welcoming! Everyone checked in with us that everything was to our liking and we felt the special treatment during our entire stay. Thank you to the entire staff for helping make our stay on Zanzibar truly an unforgettable experience!

We came here after a safari in Tanzania with our children 8 and 10. It is absolutely perfect. We got a garden room and it was completely private. The hotel was almost full but because it is so spacious it felt like we were some of the only guests in the hotel as there are so many places to sit. We spent four nights there and wish it was more. The food was amazing and staff super helpful. I can't recommend this hotel enough. The tuna and avocado starter and prawn and lobster curry was amazing!

Marafiki is absolutly amazing. The staff is very friendly and the food very delicious. It is a small and requite hotel, where you feel very much at home. My son was crazy about the Bush babies and Elefant Shrews.

This is great place to spend your holidays: beautiful garden with ocean view, nice bungalows and delicious food. Bush babies on roof of our house made us smiling every evening. The stuff is very helpful, both management and all other working there. When leaving ask for small piece of passion fruit marmalade to bring sunshine back to your home.

The hotel and bungalows are incredible! The place is very connected to nature, it is situated by the ocean. It has a subtle natural interiors. the atmosphere is very friendly and the staff is extremly nice and helpful, they offer many different activities and trips around the island. Even at the time of outflow of the ocean, there is a great pool with ocean view open 24h/7. We had an amazing time and we recommend this hotel for everyone. If You are looking for a great atmosphere, beautiful views, amazing staff and opportunities for a great trips and activities, This is a place for You!

Two friends and I stayed here whilst touring around Zanzibar and it was incredible! The food was sooo tasty, 100% recommend the prawns! They even had a live band one evening which was super fun! Ester and her team are incredible! Only thing is that we went in sea**** season so the beach wasn't exactly sunbathable! But, with the amazing pool side and mini private beach it was fine!
