Walton's Homestay, Fort Cochin

A magical piece of history - an authentic heritage hotel in the centre of Fort Kochi! We only wish we stayed longer. Charlotte was very helpful when we checked in, she provided information about things to do and recommended restaurants nearby, as well as showing us all the features of our room. The room itself was cosy, clean and opened onto a beautiful garden. The breakfast was simple but fresh. And don’t miss Mr Walton’s impressive personal library - lots of inspiration for avid book readers!

I cannot rate Walton’s highly enough. From the warm welcome on arrival (it was nearly midnight!) to always ensuring that we had everything we needed during our stay, Christopher and his daughter, Charlotte are the warmest hosts, they want you to enjoy every moment of your stay in Kochi. The rooms have everything required for your stay, freshly filtered water is always available and the breakfast is freshly prepared once ordered. Charlotte is a real credit to Walton’s and is always on hand with tips and advice. Walton’s is perfectly located in the middle of Fort Kochi with shops and restaurants on the doorstep and the beachfront a 5 minute walk away. Thoroughly recommend!

We stayed at this accommodation for two nights before the New Year. Upon arrival, we were shown a double bedroom with a very hard mattress. We immediately notified a staff member about the discomfort, but we were told there was nothing they could do except offer a single mattress that was stored under the bed, which was very dirty. Our request for an extra pillow was also declined. Due to the proximity to New Year celebrations, we were unable to find alternative accommodations and had no choice but to stay. The overall condition of the hostel was tired-looking, and the included breakfast was very bland. The property lacks a peaceful garden or outdoor space, as it consists of a few plants in a courtyard amidst building materials. The manager was unhelpful and only responded after the manager of IRIS Holiday visited us, during which we expressed our dissatisfaction. We explained that we would have moved if physically able, but no other hotels were available at that time. Despite many positive reviews, our experience does not reflect high standards, and we would not recommend this homestay.

Wow! This Home Stay on Princess Street is an amazing gem in Kochi. We are so happy we found it and wish we could have stayed longer. Mr Walton and his family are very special people and also amazing hosts. We loved everything about this home stay - the room was lovely, very comfortable and cosy with lots of character. The breakfast was amazing. The gardens are gorgeous and well cared for by Mrs Walton. The ambience is relaxed and tranquil. It was so nice to wake up to the sound of bird song in the mornings. Thank you Mr and Mrs Walton and Charlotte for everything. I felt very emotional when I left this morning. We hope to return one day.

This is what you want a Homestay experience to be. Very friendly family, charming family home and roots in the community, lovely gardens, very clean, always there to help with what you need, relaxing breakfast, and water and tea in the room. A/C worked great too. I really enjoyed meeting the Walton's and appreciated their hospitality.
