Howard Johnson Flower City Hotel Kunming

Let's start with the positives: the shampoo was pretty good, and we got to see a flower exhibition next door, which wasn't crowded and the flowers were beautiful. I also felt the hotel was making an effort, hosting an exhibition and interactive activities in the crowded lobby during Chinese New Year. After this stay, I won't easily trust international chains anymore. Their aging facilities and typically low occupancy make it hard to guarantee quality. To be fair, the building looks grand from the outside, but it's quite rundown inside. Every time the elevator door opens, you have to immediately re-press your floor button, otherwise it just goes up and down endlessly. Luckily, only one of the two elevators had this issue. The room design is outdated, and the bathroom is very cramped. The small shower head had poor water pressure – are the fixtures just too old? Another thing was the check-in process, which was incredibly slow. Registering your car plate only works for one entry; you have to re-register it every time you enter or exit. However, for a 500 CNY room with breakfast for two during Chinese New Year, I guess it's acceptable. It's basically on par with an older budget hotel, but adding a laundry room would be a big plus.

This was my first stay at this hotel. I chose it for my trip to Yunnan, and I must say the room was clean and well-maintained. It was a really great experience.

I booked this room for a friend, extending their stay. The room itself was quite nice, spotless everywhere, and they even provided complimentary fruit. The toiletries were excellent, and the air conditioning in the room was fantastic. The bedding, sheets, and pillows were all very soft and comfortable. I also got two breakfast cards, which was a great bonus!

Completely exceeded my expectations! I booked it initially for its proximity to the wildlife park, but my child absolutely loved it. After visiting the kids' play area, we extended our stay for another two nights. The service from all the staff was incredibly warm and attentive, going above and beyond their training and duties. The ginger tea and Pu'er tea in the lobby were also delicious; I made sure to have some every time I passed by. I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit!

The room was clean and tidy, and the housekeeping service was excellent. The facilities were comprehensive, and having a restaurant on the second floor was incredibly convenient. They even offered brown sugar ginger tea and aged Pu'er tea in the lobby, which was a lovely warm welcome as soon as you stepped in. Many thanks to the hotel staff for their warm hospitality.

The service was excellent. They called in advance to make all the arrangements for us, and everything was handled perfectly upon arrival with great attention to detail. I'd recommend it, though the cleanliness of the first room we entered wasn't great. There was dust and a hair tie, which made me quite uncomfortable.
