Let's start with the positives: the shampoo was pretty good, and we got to see a flower exhibition next door, which wasn't crowded and the flowers were beautiful. I also felt the hotel was making an effort, hosting an exhibition and interactive activities in the crowded lobby during Chinese New Year.
After this stay, I won't easily trust international chains anymore. Their aging facilities and typically low occupancy make it hard to guarantee quality. To be fair, the building looks grand from the outside, but it's quite rundown inside. Every time the elevator door opens, you have to immediately re-press your floor button, otherwise it just goes up and down endlessly. Luckily, only one of the two elevators had this issue.
The room design is outdated, and the bathroom is very cramped. The small shower head had poor water pressure – are the fixtures just too old?
Another thing was the check-in process, which was incredibly slow. Registering your car plate only works for one entry; you have to re-register it every time you enter or exit. However, for a 500 CNY room with breakfast for two during Chinese New Year, I guess it's acceptable.
It's basically on par with an older budget hotel, but adding a laundry room would be a big plus.
