This was one of my wish list. It is actually not VERY far from Kuroishi or even Hirosaki. If you drive then you can get there easily, except in winter. Takijg public transport is troublesome but doable. Visitors may take a bus no. 97 from Kuroishi station at 2:20pm to Rainbow Lake (Nijinoko) which is last stop. Then take a shuttle bus to the ryokan. Please make an arrangement with the ryokan in advance. The room is very basic. No electricity, no wifi, no mobile coverage. Bathroom and toilet are shared. Food is ok, but not great. Diners sit on the floor while dining on low table. Onsen is good, clean. The entire building has kerosene smell. This may make visitors feel uncomfortable. Staff were ok. They can barely speak English. Just be patient.

A very special experience to stay in this hotel! Hope I can come back again when the two outdoor baths open again.

Location is faraway. 3+ hours on the trains/buses from Aomori airport. Food is traditional. Environs is beautiful. There is a grocery store in this hotel, where you can buy almost everything. 2 out of 4 baths was out of service due to excavation works.

Very unique secluded oil lantern lit ryokan in the mountains of Aomori Prefecture. My second visit there - I absolutely loved the experience last year and decided to return. Unfortunately, half of the baths were closed due to flooding that destroyed the inn's suspension bridge across the Aoni River. Worse, they closed one of the remaining baths for cleaning prior to checkout time - without any advanced notification of the bath's closure. Disappointing - they should have considered leaving the remaining two baths open until checkout time - or at least advised at check-in time when the baths would be closed. Also, it would have been beneficial to reach out to guests ahead of time regarding the closure of the other two baths due to damage. Their website mentioned it in Japanese, but when I called I was told all the baths would be available for my early-September stay. Again, very disappointing considering the primary appeal Excellent rustic Japanese meals - both dinner and breakfast are included. Staff was friendly and accommodating besides the abovementioned issues. Sadly, unsure if I will return again.

The hot springs are beautiful, the snow is beautiful, but the food is not good, the ingredients are low-grade, and the cooking level is poor. The hot springs are just beautiful, and the quality of the springs is nothing special. However, beauty can cover up these shortcomings

How can I describe this place? It's so special. I was worried about the lack of snow before I came up, but it snowed so heavily on the mountain that it felt like two different worlds from the bottom. As soon as I entered the hotel, I smelled the smell of kerosene lamps. The whole hotel had no electricity or signal, which was suitable for daydreaming and looking at the scenery. There was a stream outside the room, and it felt good to fall asleep listening to the sound of the stream at night. The road up the mountain was so beautiful. It felt like a fairy tale world when it snowed. The food was okay, and the fish tasted good. There were two pools under maintenance, but I didn't go there much. It still took two nights to be enough, so I booked two nights, and I was generally very satisfied~

When we booked this hotel, we learned that there was free parking, so we drove there and arrived at the only entrance to the mountain of Lamp No Yado Aoni Onsen in the evening, but the entrance had been closed. The notice next to it originally stated that the road would be closed in winter, but the hotel never stated it. We tried to call the hotel for help. After the other party answered the call, they probably didn’t understand English and hung up. They didn’t answer the call again. We waited for 1 hour on the road in the strong wind and heavy snow. Later, we found a Lawson convenience store nearby, used translation software, and asked the staff to help call the hotel. The hotel replied that the guests could only take a shuttle bus to the hotel, but they didn’t provide us with any further solutions or shuttle bus arrangements before hanging up! It makes people very angry, frustrated and helpless! We had no choice but to drive to Aomori and stay in another hotel. If you plan to go to such an irresponsible business, please wish you good luck. I strongly do not recommend it! A friendly reminder: please check user reviews on Google before booking a room. We only found out later that this hotel had received a lot of bad reviews!
