We had an incredible experience at the fruit and spice hotel for our honeymoon celebration. We stayed at the jungle villa, and had our own butler (Ramson). The room was beautifully decorated with honeymoon flowers, and we had food and drinks ready on our arrival. Our butler was amazing and made our stay a comfortable and magical experience. The hotel is amazing, with its own private beach and a large selection of swimming pools. The hotel provided entertainment from Thursday-Sunday evenings, including a magical dinner at the beach with live music. The hotel has the benefits of being on a white sand beach, and also amongst the animals in the jungle (we saw lots of monkeys during our stay!) which made the holiday such a unique and special experience for us. All of the hotel staff are very warm and friendly, they were always ready to help and advise us. The staff made us feel safe and secure when dealing with the all inclusive food menus and my severe nut allergy. I was able to eat almost everything across all menus at the hotel. I would recommend this hotel if you have any food allergies. We were upgraded on one of the nights for free to stay in the honeymoon villa, and this was decorated with flowers throughout. We also were given a floating breakfast on our private pool, and a romantic dinner for 2 on the beach underneath a beautiful flower arch on our final night. We would 100% recommend this hotel for your honeymoon, or for a relaxing holiday retreat.

- We had a very nice villa with terrace, hot water jacuzzi and our own butler. We enjoyed our stay a lot. - Our butler Emanuel was just amazing guy! He fulfilled all our requests. He made our stay unforgettable. - In general I would say that this is a 4-star hotel, not a 5-star. They have lack of activities on the site. There is a small variety of drinks and cocktails. - Hotel area is very nice with amazing nature around. Private beach with a white sand was also quite pictures and beautiful. However sea near the hotel is quite shallow and especially during low tides you can’t even sit in the water. And there is no place to swim at all even during a high tides. - The pool water was not very clean despite they’ve been regularly cleaning it. - Variety and quality of the food was good, but not superb. - We struggled from the heat. We’ve been there in Feb and it was super hot and humid. Air conditioning couldn’t work properly during the day peak heat at least in jungle villa where we stayed. - In the night, nature sounds, monkey and bush babies don’t let you sleep well. - The hotel requires renovations for rooms, pool, restaurant area and wood terraces as well. It was also a bad smell from a bath tube at the end of our stay.

Although we are well aware that different standards apply in Africa, we would have expected more at this price: Food at buffet average; the entire facility appears run-down, at most 3-star level. Butter and Joghurt for breakfast not always available. Jungle villa: umbrella on the terrace crooked, stand in disrepair, mini-jacuzzi neglected. Door to villa not closing properly. After reporting, they tried to fix it. No sea view, contrary to the room description. Private wooden pier to the water under construction, not usable! Personal "butler" polite and diligent but had difficulty understanding our requests; things had to be ordered or inquired about multiple times (forgot drinks at dinner, fried eggs weren't sunny side up, we received an omelette despite not ordering one, asking for salt, etc.). Details, but in total, not okay. Improved over time. Positive: Wonderfully quiet location and awesome beach. Well-maintained garden area. Cleanliness: everything is very clean throughout. Team/staff consistently polite and attentive. Fantastic buffet/dinner by the pool on Saturday evening with delightful african dishes! Stunning "romantic dinner" the last evening of our stay. After a complaint with the GM we got a superb upgrade to a "Honeymoon Villa", very spacious, private beach, and private jetty. So at last we had a very beautiful conclusion to our vacation!

We had a week long stay at this hotel following a week safari In Kenya, we arrived at the hotel late evening and the first 10 minutes unfortunately set the tone for the trip. We were greeted by a lady in reception, who checked us in and ran through the format of the hotel. We were all inclusive and the main points she proceeded to tell us about was all the extra charges that we could incur outside our all inclusive package. The hotel has a lobster bar, which we were led to believe was included in our all inclusive package. We were informed that this was closed, when asked why, she provided no reason. This was a big selling point for us in booking this hotel as we both love sea food. We were then told that if prawns and lobster were on the a la cart lunch menu we would have to pay extra for this. Due to our late arrival the buffet had closed, she then told us that sandwiches would be sent to our room, a gesture which she did not follow through on. I did ask her about this the next day and she replied saying that she thought we would have been asleep. We stayed in the jungle garden room, which was basic but definitely not 5*, the bed was very hard and the room liked tired. We woke up the next day and had to ask for a tour around the hotel, a little thing, but perhaps something you would expect to be offered being a 5* hotel. We spent most of our time on the beach, which was very nice and idyllic. However, many of the sun beds are broken, with the cushions and beach towels stained. Throughout the day I did expect someone to come and offer drinks or at least collect empty glasses, but this never happened. We spent one afternoon by the pool, simply because the beach setting was much nicer and the sea was so clear and warm. Our main disappointment was the food- there was plenty on offer at the breakfast and at the evening buffet, however the major concern I had was food being left on the side in 30 degree heat, for a couple of hours. The restaurant was open and there was no way of chilling the cold food, so the fruit and salad never looked very appetising. One morning, as authentic as it might be, I did spot a monkey on the buffet worktop, which isn’t the most hygienic of sights. Most days we had a freshly made pancake/omelet for breakfast, then a slice of freshly made pizza in the evening, we didn’t fancy anything else. Lunch was freshly made, but very basic and pretty bland- I wouldn’t say a pizza, burger and chips and a pasta dish is particularly a la cart. The food in general was not of a 5* standard and for us was a major disappointment. If you are a foody, looking for luxury, exemplary service and a hotel with a fun and welcoming atmosphere this is not the place for you. We would not recommend.

Should have checked the negative reviews and would have avoided having to double pay to move hotels. Buffet is just horrible - especially breakfast. Forget if you have any dietary needs as it wont be accommodated and even then the selection, quality and presentation is horrible. Hotel is old and neglected with very little working - a weird jacuzzi on the beach that is broken, broken gym equipment, no towels by the pool. Pool side food is just horrible. Weird grey pasta that I would not even feed my dog. The spa is old and neglected. This hotel looks great in the pics and promises turtle nursery & water-sports. Don't be fooled, there is no turtle nursery, no water-sports, the gym is full of broken inadequate equipment. This is not a wellness resort by any stretch of the imagination. Room - shower floods( in all 4 rooms we booked), mosquito net has black mould and after cleaning smells of cleaners body odour.. extreme smell!!!! Location is very remote - better to book beachfront in Paje. We moved to a gorgeous three star for a third of the price and it was sublime. Pros - staff are lovely although even they agreed with all the complaints but said they have told management but nothing gets done. Entertainment is good.

The resort grounds are very pleasant and occupy some lovely shoreline, but the general infrastructure and overall quality of rooms/food aren't really up to standard for the 5* rating and price point. The overall electricity (constant power cuts / insufficient generator use) and wifi are particularly bad and inconsistent, so it was ultimately quite frustrating. The staff were all very friendly, and sought to help where possible, so the downsides are more around the overall infrastructure.
