The Retreat at Groenfontein - No Self Catering

We had such a wonderful time here! Three days immersed in beautiful nature and delicious food and Marie's exceptionally friendly company! It was wonderful to be able to walk from our lovely cottage in the surrounding mountains, then sit down for a delicious late breakfast, spend the afternoon on the veranda and enjoy the many birds, beautiful views, and the peace and quiet. And in the evening, we enjoyed a large breakfast and a delicious three-course dinner with other guests. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful time at The Retreat. We were upgraded to a lovely, spacious room close to the swimming dam. The setting and scenery in the mountains was stunning. Marie was a very gracious host and the food was delicious and the service excellent. We were there for 2 nights but we will definitely go back for longer next time. I can highly recommend this beautiful place and experience

The spot was magical...everything about it. But by far the best was the family style breakfast and dinner. I love that all the guests sit down and eat together and talk and drink. Something we don't get much of these days! Thanks

Way off the beaten track, remote in the mountains, this was a total surprise to discover. The warmth and personal touch of the hosts was exceptional, and the dinner at a long table where all the guests sit down for a delicious meal was great fun and conversation. The rooms are very well equipped and comfortable, and the views and surroundings so peaceful. Would definitely visit again.

From the start of our stay till the end we were well satisfied with The Retreat. Its location in a quiet and peaceful valley made it an excellent choice for relaxation. We had a warm welcome from Marie and the dogs and she showed us to our room which we found both spacious and comfortable with good views. The many walks offer an opportunity to get some exercise and the massage we had was great to enhance our feelings of wellbeing. The food was excellent and served with the hosts in the dining room for dinner or on the veranda for breakfast. Good friendly conversation added to us feeling at home. We enjoyed it so much we extended out stay!

My husband and I spent a night at The Retreat and what a wonderful experience it was yet again. The room was welcoming and clean and the dinner and breakfast at the guesthouse was fabulous. The food, the conversation and sharing with the other guests always makes an interesting event. Marie and Erica made us feel like family. The walks are varied and I walked to the pools and had a great swim in the chilly mountain water whilst my husband had an amazing mountain bike ride. This is always a formula for a great time. We will definitely be back.
