Hotel Ker Moor Saint-Quay Portrieux

The Ker Moor Hotel was a disappointment on various fronts. It looks quite grand with that impressive oriental mansion towering over the site. It came as quite a surprise to discover the stone mansion is not part of the hotel despite appearing on all its promotional material and even its logo. It is, in fact, in private ownership. The hotel sits in the former grounds of the grand house but that’s it! Misleading? I think so. There were several areas where the reality did not live up to the promise. The breakfast room is too small and when busy guests have to take breakfast in the reception spill over area. There were several instances where form won over function. The bar stools in the aforementioned reception area looked great but were far too heavy to move when sat on so you ended up distanced from the table. The actual breakfast was adequate but did not excel. Our room was nice enough and offered a good sea view but the toilet was minute. If you were on the larger size then you’d struggle to sit on the loo and close the door. One guest described the toilet as a ‘bog in a box’ – and he has a point. Parking is limited. There is secure parking for a small number of cars at an inflated price of 15 euros a day. If you can’t park in the hotel you have no option but to park on the street. The roof top bar is nice enough but the food selection is pretty minimal. It is amazing that a hotel that positions itself as a luxury establishment does not have a restaurant. Yet another disappointment. The hotel shuts ar 21.30 after which you have to use your room key to gain access through a side door. It’s not cheap and given the failings in so many areas it does represent good value. On the positive side, the staff were pleasant and helpful even if they struggled with English. Would we return? No, I don’t think so.

These people are super welcoming and will knock themselves out for you. I felt extremely fortunate to have the staff be there for me because I had booked on a holiday weekend and didn’t account for the 3d day. The staff immediately dealt with it and set the entire tenor of my stay from the getgo. Some general notes about the hotel that are properly noted: it has an incredibly nice view of the water, but it is not on the water. It has a nice swimming pool and it has very nice seating indoor and out for its breakfast service. It also has a very nice rooftop bar, but there is no restaurant so you must book a restaurant to eat any other meal. Some ADA access notes : there are two kind of small ADA reserved parking slots near what they call the night entrance is actually also a very nicely done wheelchair ramp, although it is somewhat steeper than American wheelchair ramps and does not have a handrail. However, it is one of the better ADA access ramps. I’ve seen in a while in France. The elevator is located immediately to the right at the bottom of this ramp. The elevator serves all floors, including the rooftop bar. I do not have an ADA access room so it remains to be seen what wheelchair access is like for bathrooms in this hotel. However, the English speaking staff will likely have that information.

This property was fabulous but we got overcharged by 300euros as we left at reception and had to go back and get refunded

The hotel was excellent and staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect with stunning views. A really enjoyable stay.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A lovely sea view room with a powerful shower but small toilet. The breakfast choice was more than expected. The staff are very attentive and speak excellent English. A short coastal walk to either the port or beach.

Kerr Moor is charming, clean and comfortable. Our room was spacious with a gorgeous view of the ocean, a balcony and modern bathroom. We took the breakfast for each of our 5 days, it was extensive and delicious. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Of special mention: Lucie gave us great ideas for restaurants and took time to ask about our evening and chat with us at the end of the day. Jean Charles was patient and helpful with our questions. A very special 'thank you' to Agnès, who made a bowl of delicious oatmeal for me each morning which was perfect. She is quite a bike enthusat and makes little wire bike sculptures that are just beautiful! I was charmed and touched by our exchanges. I am delighted to recommend Ker Moor!
