Checking in at 4pm on a Saturday was clearly a huge imposition for the extremely grumpy motel manager. Her manner was nothing less than rudely abrupt. With virtually only us and one other couple in the whole motel she decided that room six would be ours, right opposite the stop lights on the busy Great Western Highway. Very reluctantly she changed our room to a quieter one around the back of the complex when we insisted this was not good enough as we had requested a deluxe room. The tiny, closet of a room, with one of the beds 20cm from the bathroom door, was a bit of a surprise. The miniature fridge on the floor, (switched off of course) is really only for use by an agile, well-limbered acrobat and most of the inside compartments were missing so you couldn’t really put much in it. Lighting was nothing short of hideous with one of ‘nanna’s’ old lamps and/or a lovely white bright fluorescent tube streaking across the ceiling. There was nowhere to put bags except in a small so called walk-in wardrobe with no light. One of our bags was so close to the front door we had to move it around to enter and exit. This was the most hideous and tiniest room we have stayed in for a very long time. As another reviewer commented, ‘we had to go outside to change our mind’. So very accurate and we were checked into this nightmare for two long nights. We decided to do some research on the internet to find a nice eating spot. For those who remember dial up wifi, you’ll feel very nostalgic in this place. We were lucky if a page was fully loaded every ten minutes. We left to go for brunch and thought the cleaners might arrive to refresh towels and straighten bed linen. Nobody ventured near our room and all was as we left it when we returned at 5pm. On a more positive note the bathroom had been recently renovated and worked quite well. However, the groaning and scraping of the sliding door between the rooms was a real winner when trying to quietly relieve oneself in the dead of night. Some things in this motel could be forgiven but, considering the managers attitude, the size of the room, the lack of internet service, we will never return. Do yourself a favour and stay elsewhere.
