Hotel il Fondaccio is a small gem in the Bolognese Appenine. Family owned for over 100 years, the owners are welcoming, kind, and offer simple but fine rooms in a setting overlooking a magnificent forested valley. This is the kind of place one dreams of finding, but rarely does: a simple family run spot that manages to deliver on nearly every level. There is a lovely pool open in summer. And the kitchen, run by the patriarch of the family, offers the best cooking I’ve ever eaten at a pensione. Anyone staying who does not opt for half board is making a mistake. The meals are extraordinary, using the freshest ingredients and cooked with love. I am longing to go back for another dinner at Il Fondaccio. Thank you to lovely Linda and her family. We will return!
