We booked a table for Sunday lunch. Neither of us had been to the hotel before. So we're unfamiliar with the bars & restaurants. A little time lapsed before a waiter came to our table. We ordered our meal at the same time as our drinks. Our starters came quite quickly, oysters & prawn cocktail. Both were very nice. Our water & wine had still not been served when we had our starters. It appeared that there weren't enough staff serving. Even though the area we were sat in wasn't full. We waited for over an hour before our roasts were served. At no time did any member of staff acknowledge us or apologise. Eventually we asked a member of staff and they said they would check. A little while after our food arrived. We were asked on ordering if we wanted our meat pink. We both ordered pink. Neither mine or my partners lamb were served pink. The meal was pleasant but not exceptional. There was caramelised onions on both under our meat. Which didn't seem to fit with either of our meals. Our malbec wine was nice. Overall we enjoyed our visit. After our meal we sat in the courtyard which was pleasant.

We enjoyed a comfortable well equipped room in this well run hotel. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and free car parking was a real bonus with the town centre location. The food was well presented and of good quality with excellent choices. Overall our stay was a very pleasant experience.

We chose this hotel to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary after reading the reviews. We had high expectations which were exceeded by a long way! It is a special venue. They have managed to achieve a great balance between retaining the style and elegance of of its historical past and making it feel fresh and modern. The staff team were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Dining is first class. The bar and restaurant are lovely environments in which to dine and dinner was excellent, enough choice for this healthy eating, non meat eater. We didn’t eat in the outside patio area but it looked fabulous, beautifully decorated with tubs of flowers. The location was surprisingly quiet given that it is in the town centre. I’d like to think we might return again one day.

our two night stay at the Angel was an absolute delight. We were upgraded to a lovely large room with sofa, desk and ice bucket with apple juice and water waiting for us. Plus nibbles and a really full tea/coffee assortment. The breakfasts were just delicious and the other meals we had were excellent. But the main thing I have noticed on previous visits for lunch at the Angel, and this time again, is the amazingly helpful, friendly staff who really seem like they care for your comfort.

Just had a two course £25 prix fixé meal at this hotel. Setting lovely, waiting and reception staff friendly, but main meal was hugely disappointing. From a choice of two, I had the chicken katsu, and I have honestly had far better in Wagamama’s. It was pretty tasteless and underwhelming. Although our waiter was lovely, and we tipped her, we were not offered any water, a wine menu, or indeed asked if we needed anything near such as salt and pepper. The bill for two bearing in mind the prix rice of £25 was a staggering £110. It transpires the white was £17 a glass and the rosé £13. Perhaps we should have insisted in the wine menu.

We have stayed at The Angel at least twice a year for the last 7 years & it has become our second home. We went back the first week after Covid restrictions were lifted! The staff are always so welcoming & nothing is too much trouble to make our stay comfortable. The food is local, fresh & delicious, (one of the few places I know that makes a great porridge for breakfast). We will certainly be back in the Autumn for our Wedding Anniversary.

What an excellent place to spend a few days exploring the area. We....4 somewhat aged men...have been going away for about 40 years ...much to the relief of our wives. The hotel was faultless - spotlessly clean and rooms were a good size. The evening meal was excellent as was the choices for breakfast. All members of staff were brilliant and we - bearing in mind the previous comment about 'aged men'- treated so well.
