My husband and I booked Sunday Lunch 2 weeks ago £19. Starter extra. Our starter came with CRUSTS to accompany the Feta & Butternut Squash dip, instead of sour dough bread. The Sunday Lunch was COLD & SMALL POTIONS, 1 carrot 1 parsnip 3 small roast potatoes & paper thin beef. red & green cabbage served together in the same tureen, so the red cabbage run into the green!! My husband does not like red cabbage & so his meal was spoilt! We will not return for food! But the setting & staff are lovely..

My friend and I spent the night at the establishment, and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, which greatly contributed to our positive stay. We have already booked for next year. Would recommend

My wife and I have just returned from a Sunday lunch, the Rhydspence is a stunning old pub with loads of character. We had the beef dinner which was tasty but small , 1 carrot ,1 parsnip , 2 slices of thinly sliced beef . 3 roasts potatoes, a small turine of cabbage and red cabbage. And a decent Yorkshire pudding. If pretty and small is for you then great. If your a fan of a carvery I'd try somewhere else.

An amazing gem of a pub. Craig and his team made us feel very welcome and the service was impeccable. Very comfortable room in the historic building. Food was outstanding for both dinner and breakfast - definitely notches above usual pub grub - and all delicious. The roaring cosy fire was an added bonus. Well located for exploring the local area. Looking forward to going back in the future.

Beautiful 2 night stay in the Rhydspence. The welcome and friendliness was so nice after our journey. Room had a four poster bed and modern bathroom all the small touches and complimentary teas and soaps a lovely addition. Breakfast was the nicest we have had in years. Picturesque setting and in easy reach for walking/hiking and Hay or Brecon.

This pub has been transformed and is now an oasis of excellent food, a highly imaginative wine list and excellent service. We felt welcomed from the moment we stepped over the threshold and really appreciated so many lovely little touches like outstanding olives, unprompted jug of water with ice and lemon and lovely photos celebrating its Marches and drover history. And a fascinating eclectic wine list with amazing clarets which the owners should be congratulated on. Could not recommend more strongly

We stayed here for a night after spending the day in Hay-on-Wye. We were in room 1 with the four poster bed and we were in the oldest part, which dates back to the 1300s. Staff were so welcoming and we were the only guests staying there but it was completely unintentional that we booked the day before they were going to close it for some work. It was very busy in the evening as locals were having their dinners so glad we booked a table! The food was perfect, breakfast included and I highly recommend the tiramisu! Being someone who is obsessed with historic buildings and enjoys photography, I politely asked if it was ok to take some shots on my drone but sadly it began chucking it down the next morning so I didn’t manage to get as many photos as I wanted so we definitely have an excuse to come back but we want to come back regardless! Huge thanks to Craig and Freddy for making us feel so welcome in such a lovely, homely atmosphere.

Cracking Sunday lunch…..just moved close by and went here for Sunday Lunch. Good welcome, great food and friendly service. Roaring log fire and good beer too. a great sunday lunch. Wife and I had Parsnip soup and Salmon to start, followed by roast beef and pork belly and then syrup sponge, cheese, coffee and a couple of pints of Butty Bach. All well prepared, cooked and served. Cost was good value……not cheap but not over expensive. Great to see a traditional pub serving very good food. Wish them every success
