Longreach Most Central Motel

Luckily we had not read the reviews and we were trying to get 2 cabins in the caravan park. 1 to sleep 3 and the other to sleep 2 but on booking the 3 the 2 had sold out so we cancelled the 3. We also wanted 2 nights. It was difficult find another reasonably priced accomodation so we rang the Central Motel which is part of the Commercial Hotel. Initially we were told we could have a Queen and Single for $225 and a Queen for $185 but shortly after booking we were told there was a mix up and no Queens were available but we could have the 2 x Queen and Singles for 2 nights at $220 each per night. On arrival we were given the 2 x newly renovated rooms 12 and 13. They were lovely and spacious, clean, with comfortable beds, a bench with 2 chairs, TV, Fridge, coffee making and toaster, iron, Air Conditioner, extra bedding and pillows. The bathroom had huge walk in shower with rain shower head, New mirror and basin and toilet with shampoo, conditioner and soap. Towels were laid out on the beds. Outside we had parking at the door and 2 chairs. There is a laundry at the end of the motel. It is 2 storey but our were on ground level. It could be a bit noisey as we were opposite the drive through bottle shop and when the hotel closed it was rowdy on the Friday night. We couldn't fault the rooms. If the other rooms have not been newly renovated, ask for 12 or 13.

This had to be the worst motel room I have ever seen. 2 couples travelling ran out of accommodation options and booked 2 rooms at the Central motel last night. We were charged $238/ room. What we found when we entered the rooms were filthy and rooms which were more consistent with $60 per night rooms. Our bathroom had mouldy tiles and grout, missing tiles, dirt and dust everywhere and was without a shower curtain. The grime had built up over a long period, there was no indication of cleaning the bathroom properly. The vanity unit was rotting at the side and front. Please look at photos. I considered not showering, but after 4 nights camping wore thongs in the shower and the room. We also considered bringing our swag in to sleep in. Our friends room had two stubby caps on the table beside the single bed which looked as though it had been slept in. Upon checking out, I spoke with the owner, Matt, who told me that was the market rate...I told him that may be the market rate for a clean and well appointed room. I also told him that I would publish the photos and he really wasn't interested. No one we spoke to around town was at all surprised at our experience.

This place is disgusting. How authorities allow this establishment to trade is beyond me. If it is the only accommodation you can get in Longreach - do not go. The hand basin in the room was filthy. No lock on the bathroom toilet door. Shower was filthy. Curtains in room broken. It’s is basically a drive thru bottle shop. The bar area is far from inviting.
