We loved our stay at the Makanda Inn! We stayed in the Indigo cabin for a few days in late August while we were hiking in the Shawnee National Forest. The cabins are ideal for couples. Indigo is connected to another cabin, but you still have plenty of privacy even when both are occupied. They are heated/air conditioned, which was important for us because it was in the high 90s the whole week we stayed there. (We did not use the balcony and fire pit much for that reason, but they would definitely be a plus in the fall.) The stairway from the bedroom to the kitchen/sitting area below is narrow and twisty, so if you have any mobility issues I recommend staying in one of the suites in the main building instead. The breakfasts are great, and the staff are wonderful.

What a lovely gem in Illinois. Rooms are very spacious and the shower was luxurious! But what makes this place stand out was the hospitality! The hosts made us feel so welcomed! Breakfast was tasty and I wouldn’t change a thing. The area is gorgeous and we had a great time at the Makanda boardwalk and in giant city state park.

Super sweet lady owns the property. If you stay at the inn check in is only for a few hours. You will receive room and front door key since staff is not on site all day and night.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Makanda Inn. It is an amazing bed and breakfast. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. Great hosts. Loved the nearby wineries and hiking. I would definitely recommend staying at the Makanda Inn. Our suite was comfy and clean.

This visit was a time of reset that I needed after loosing my mom. I could not have found a better place of peace to do just that. The calm that surrounded me was nothing short of a little piece of heaven where mom has finally reached in full splendor 😇
The room was exceptional, along with the beauty of the wood working of the lodge, the patio area and wrap around porch along the wood line is beautiful. Rather your looking for a time to just be still or a couples retreat or a family getaway I highly recommend you consider Makanda Inn, you will not be disappointed ❤️

We stayed in the Sugar Maple Suite. Our room was very clean and quite comfy, especially the bed. Breakfast served downstairs the next morning was really good and the atmosphere very relaxing. Beautiful wooded area with opportunity to visit close by Giant City State Park. We ate at the state park lodge and enjoyed seeing lodge along ordering a good meal. Some suites have a balcony facing the woods; our suite's porch was along the driveway, but was still pretty and relaxing to sit on.

Unique stay, comfy beds & beautiful wooded surroundings. We stayed in a cottage, could have been cleaner & we went for breakfast & only got served a tiny bowl of yogurt. We watched while others were served a full breakfast. It clearly stated on the website breakfast was for ALL guests. We won’t be back
